Im looking for a tight chest, and i do one chest/tricep day a week with weight training (intensity and reps are high 12-10-8-6 with reg. bench, incline dumbell, and flys). How many push ups are ideal for a day of work? throw out a number that i need to achieve.

I think you need to read the stickies.

you have already started about 5 threads of questions that show you are very new to this stuff. Your ideas are a little skwered. Check out the stickies for information on helping you get to where you want to be.

Aren't that good for helping you bench 400lbs, sure. But they certainly have benefits.

Posted by: gr81

just out of curiosity what would they be?

Posted by: AKIRA

Change of pace, active rest, specific warm up?

push ups are good to burn out at the end, at least for me.if you can get some weigth on top of u ( try tellin ur gf to lay on ur back while ur doing push ups) then thats an excellent excerise to build ur chest, well dependin how much ur gf weigths and good in a sense if you dont have access to a bench.

i like big chicks, so i shouldn't be having this problem

all of my freinds who have been out of jail come out more jacked then they where when they lifted weights. so pushups definetly have there place.

don't jails have weights? how many push ups you do a day?

Posted by: danny81

as of now im not doing any pushups but i used to do as many as i could when ever i had time. jails do have weights(some), but you onlyn have like 1 hour a day to use thm
and everyone fights for them. so its useless.

were your push ups worthless if you have a bench?

well that must mean pushups are valuable Have you ever heard the term post hoc ergo propter hoc? Its means: after, therefore because. It is not logical to infer that b/c your friends came out of jail with an increase in mass, it was so b/c of pushups. The fact is that unless you have been completely sedentary your entire life, pushups do not offer the continually increasing resistance needed to get you "jacked". its unlikely that you will gain anything from them besides some conditioning perhaps. There is a reason this sport is called resistance training, the increasing resistance is a necessary component to continually achieving hypertrophy.

funny how that works for most bigger men . lol ..

those carbs mess with you Imo.. but unless you need to wiin a push up comp, it' probably doesn't need to matter to you.

I used to do 700 a day looking for 1000 and 300 tricep dips or so in sets of 50-100 with a quick child pose ( or whatever else I felt like ) stretch and 30 sec - 3min rest between.. like maybe as I did a set of something else, but that's crazy. If you do to many you're going to change your ruling and predominant muscle fibre types and if you want to hypertrophy, then you don't want to do that.
I'm a fml.. so for me .. until I hear a better reason not to .. I like it like that.

That's the way i mainly use them.

They're obviously not much of a strength builder without major variations and added resistance - but as for the rest of your suggestions - why not i say?

I do medicine pull ups a lot. Only, I have my feet placed on a ball(s) for extra core strengthening.

if my GF is laying on top of me, push-ups are the last thing on my mind.
