My wife needs help on toning/losing weight in her legs and butt (minor cellulite). She has been running, taking spin classes, and weight training twice a day and is having a healthy diet. Also needs to tone and lose the weight fast (aprox. 5 days). Any suggestions?

what is her diet?

What is her training like?

As of two weeks ago she eats whole grain cereal or oatmeal in the morning with fruit, a salad, veggie sandwich, or something lite for lunch and veggies for dinner but pretty much next to nothing.

okay, she needs to log on here and read the nutrition stickies because her diet is not doing her any favors by any means! I would say that it is holding her back.

And her training program?

She isn't too fimiliar with the machines so she does low weights but high reps and works everything lower and upper body

Basically, the reason that she doesn't see the results she wants is because she is doing everything wrong. Here is what she is doing:

not eating an optimal diet
not eating enough
doing to much steady state cardio
not training intensly enough with weights

For her to get what she wants, tell her to take those 4 things and do the exact opposite. Seriously.

I just got my GF into the gym maybe 3 weeks ago. I got her eating every 2.5 3 hours. lots of protein(from whats shes used to anyway aprx 80-100gs/day)
We do a 5 min warm-up.. The first week I was just fimilarizing her with the weight, gettin her form correct. Now she's optimizing her weight sessions 30mins of 1 sometimes 2 bodyparts w/ supersets. Ofteng gettin her to go to failure. Then she goes on the tredmill for 25-30 mins using inclines. various speeds.(Avoid the Eliptical if you can)
Her results are great, im suprised on her muscle tone already.
Maybe try to focus on a specific body part each day but intensely.. use a weight thats heavy enough were shes feeling a good burn at 15reps.
We also go 5days/week.

But its not easy she's gotta work for it and results will come. Thats my advice.. hope it works for ya.. but 5 days?? goodluck I dont know any cure for that..

Remember, every knows that protein builds the muscles which burns the fat.

_why_ would you say avoid the eliptical?

Eliptical is too easy, why do u think everyone likes it.. I know it can be difficult but nobody every goes intensly on it.

Im gonna start a poll feel free to vote..
Most EFFECTIVE cardio machine

Bike
Tredmill
Eliptical

I didnt say it was more or less effective than any other cardio. I wouldn't claim be so omniscient to say what is more or less effective for someone else, i was just asking why you would say to avoid it?

I do the elliptocal quite a bit, actually...if you up the resistance and do high RPM's it's a fantastic workout. I find it to be the easiest way to keep my HR in the range I want it, and also the best way not to put too much of a strain on my legs (muscular and joints).

I advocate the elliptical machine because it's a no impact way of doing cardio. What I tell everyone that I send over to it is you can't use the milage in comparison to the treadmill because like the cycle, you can do a lot more distance with a lot less effort.

The problem with a lot of the cardio machines people use is they go by what the digital display says their progress is, and limit themselves. You need to go by how you feel. If you're doing 3 miles and it kills you, great. 2 weeks later if you're doing 3.5 miles and you still have some left afterwards... you're not doing enough.

It's not about the machine, you need to push yourself as much as possible to get results.

On treadmills some machines show u do burn more calories and in some its less with doing the same exercise.
Just push urself till ur out out breath

And i'd say Treadmill is the best for cardio, bike + elliptical is for pussy IMO.

I could make a case that the treadmill is the worst for exercise given the way that it changes how a persons running technique is and doesn't recruit the glutes as much given the fact that ground is moving and you are not.

In a nut shell.....everything is good. just like lifting weights, you have to mix things up...sometimes we do sprinting, sometimes stairmill, sometimes rower, sometimes bike, occasionally ellipitcal (although it is good for those that can't take impact), sometimes body weight circuits, etc...

You can't speak in definites all the time. It makes you looks stupid and it gives me a fucking headache.
