anyone her who watchesMMA. why isit that they punch so oddly. since i box I watch alot of boxing and i only recently got into mma, but when ever i watch it i see alot of flaws in there punching style. is there a reason why they do these things? they constantly drop there hands, quite often start a combo with a cross, hook, or uppercut as opposed to a jab, overuse the overand punch, dont use as much of there body to punch, rarely do combos and most are short combos like double jab or jab cross or jab hook, block often as opposed to dodging, alot of the punches are thrown with just the arm and are slow, and also they sometimes fail to turn the wrist.

alot of punches are just weird and unbelevably easy to block and dodge like this one YouTube - Chuck Liddell Teaches His Overhand Right...
and this one YouTube - Learn to Punch like Chuck Liddell....

I mean chuck lidell did some kickboxing so i know that he know how to punch like a boxer, but I guess he chooses not to.

are the MMA style of punching better than boxing? if not why do they do it?

Cause they are two different sports and shouldn't be compared.

All Boxers have to worry about is another punch coming back. Meanwhile an MMA fighter has an array of attacks to defend and be concerned with for a counter attack

A lot of guys don't keep their hands completely up because takedown defense is a top priority. If they'd keep their hands up like Winky Wright for instance, they'd be more susceptible to the take down.

And a lot of MMA guys do jab, it's just usually the better boxers who utilize it because it's more effective. A jab won't stop a takedown either.

The rest I don't really notice. Don't forget guys in MMA use much lighter gloves too, so I guess they can afford a little leeway. They also train in many other disciplines so not every guy has the resources to polish up their boxing skills.

Boxer = roughly 60% of his weight on front foot, 40% on the rear foot. Fast jabs, no telegraphed punches ... and no shot of getting his legs kicked out from under him because it's a boxing match.

Kick boxer = roughly 40% of his weight on front foot, 60% on the rear foot so he can flip out that front kick like a boxer flicks out a jab.

MMA fighter = none of the above. An MMA fighter has to set his stance according to the kind of fighter that stands in front of him. Stand like a kick boxer vs a BJJ guy and his front leg will get wrapped around his neck like a bow tie. Stand like a boxer vs a Muay Thai fighter and his front leg will feel like it was severely beaten with a baseball bat.

Keeps it interesting
