Cardinals reliever Hancock killed in car crashAssociated Press

ST. LOUIS -- Josh Hancock, a key member of the bullpen that helped the St. Louis Cardinals win the World Series last season, was killed in a car crash early Sunday.

The Cardinals said they were told of the 29-year-old reliever's death by the St. Louis Police Department. The team's home game against the Chicago Cubs on Sunday night was postponed.

The team said the accident happened in St. Louis, but no other details were disclosed. The Cardinals and police are expected to make a statement this afternoon at Busch Stadium.

Hancock has pitched for four major league clubs. He went 3-3 in 62 regular-season appearances for the Cardinals last season and pitched in three postseason games. He was 0-1 with a 3.55 ERA in eight games this season.

Hancock joined the Cardinals before the 2006 season. He has pitched for Boston, Philadelphia and Cincinnati.

I didnt see this thread. I came on here and started my own. Sorry.

This guy was really starting to come on as well. Poor guy, I just hope there will be no alcohol involved. The cards orginization already had one run in with alcohol this year.

He was not married, so thats a plus and had no kids that I am aware of. But a super nice guy. My brother went down to a game at the beggining of the year and signed a couple of baseballs for him and he said the guy was a super nice guy. Smiling and being super friendly. Next do David Eckstein that cant be said for to many guys. Well Albert is a super friendly guy as well.

May god be with him!

Hancock, 29, was alone in his 2007 Ford Explorer when the SUV struck the rear of a flatbed tow truck at 12:35 a.m. The tow truck was in the left lane behind a vehicle that had struck the median, and the driver said the emergency lights were flashing at the time of impact, police chief Joe Mokwa said.

"Hancock died upon impact, Mokwa said. The driver of the tow truck, whose name was not released by police, was in the truck at the time of the crash and was not injured. Mokwa said the truck driver thought Hancock's SUV swerved just before it hit the tow truck."

If only it had been super... j/k
Yeah what ashame. Hate to see em go that young. I remember when Kile died back in 2002, they came out and announced it to the fans and the whole place went dead silent. Hopefully the Cards can pull through get back to defending their title.

Cardinals sure do like look hell right now! Absolutly horrible! But it can be expected after this. I think they shouldve cancelled all their games until atleast after the funeral.

Posted by: Double D

Oh and there has been people that say he was at Mike Shannons bar drinking. Of course this was going to come up. I hope it comes up to be wrong, but I have been there and the atmosphere is great, I really doubt he was there sober.

Looks like you were right Double:
Police: Cardinals' Hancock was drunk at time of fatal accident< - MLB - Yahoo! Sports

Drunk, on his cell phone during the crash, and marijuana found in his car. Not good.

You forgot speeding, too.

Posted by: Double D

Yeah he didnt do himself any favors. It sucks, many of us have gotten behind a wheel while drunk, but fuck I think I am much more careful then! Hancock may have thought, hell if I get a DUI it could be writting off since LaRussa got one before the season!

Too bad.

Wonder if the person on the other end of thephone heard the whole thing. I was on the phone with my buddy when he crashed his vehicle, scared the shit out of me. Luckily he only had minor injuries.

She was talking and the phone went dead, according to MSNBC. It's sad nonetheless.

Very unfortunate but not unexpected. You don't just plow into the back of a tow truck.

Posted by: Double D

Was lucky no one else was hurt, but keep in mind someone did lose their life. Would be better if no one lost their life. I saw Cardinal fans on tv saying they were dissapointed in him. And the same guy that said it had a Bud light hat on and a beer in his hand! And the fucker was at the game. Yeah like he didnt drive home after the game.
