Personally, I use fats pre and post workout.

Flax is often used as a fiber supplement, it might slow the digestion of your pre, which may or may not be beneficial...

How much time is there between your pre and your workout?

I find if I don't have fats pre-workout I'm starving/depleted about 2/3 of the way through my workout.

Have you tried having a handful of pecans or almonds?

Personally I feel the ground flax seeds are better than the nuts for this because you get the fiber and n3's and n6's.

Is it better to use Flax Seeds or Flax Oil? And if Flax Seeds are best; it it OK to buy the Flaxseed Meal?

So you do recommend fiber before a workout? I can see myself wanting that when I carb up before a run but I'll be keeping it up for almost 2 hours...

It would beat having to suck on those darn gel packs though.

Yeah of course. Fiber slows down digestion so you get a steady stream of insulin to be used for energy. Just like fat. Why do you want a fast surge of insulin pre-workout anyway? If you are eating a healthy diet then your glycogen stores should not be depleted. So having carbs, protein and fat pre-workout will help supply the fuel needed.

If you can stand it, go for it. Personally the last time I had flax in any kind of a shake....well....

depends on how long you plan on running for. I wouldn't want the fiber binding me up as I am trying to log 18 miles or something. You will need the energy that the carbs give you...that is what the gel packs are for. The amount you are intaking is totally dependant on the distance you are running (or really the time you are are running). If it is under 45min. you probably don't need the gel packs. As you start to log 60+ min. on your feet, you are going to need some energy or you will start hitting the wall.

Good point P! I missed him comment on running and was referring to pre-workout meal.

Pre-WO Shake
1/2 scoop Whey
1/2 scoop 20%Malto/80%Dex.
