I think fats are more important than carbs most of the time. The rule of thumb I use for carbs is "Only consume a lot of carbs when you're going to use them." This excludes vegetables and fruit.

And don't count fibrous carbs - it takes more calories to digest them than they contain I believe, so they really don't count for anything. |

I keep things balanced on workout days or not. I might taper my carbs a bit quicker on non-workout days but for the most part my diet stays consistent throughout. It's worked worlds of wonders for me.
I also wanted to add that the only real rule I stick to is keeping fats away from the meals around my workouts (on workout days) and carbs away from sleep time. Other than that, balance is the key to my diet. |
