i have never maxed out, although i'm not a powerlifter. never did it for football, either. seemed like an utter waist of time.

did it so coach could set up are sets for BFS

Posted by: Duncans Donuts

BFS?

in any case those maxes are good. good stats on the rushes/tds, too

Posted by: Rubes

bigger faster stronger. thanks busted my ass to get the yards and tds

Posted by: Duncans Donuts

i've found that most high school football coaches know less that nothing about exercise. i'd like to know what a routine for bigger, faster, stronger looks like?

Posted by: Rubes

im thinking about starting a journal with that as my program for it. start a new cycle on it starting on monday

Posted by: P-funk

those are good maxes, if they were done legit with good form. Most coaches test their athletes like fucking morons (I see it at the gym when I work out). I am a super strict tester.

The only piece of advice I can give you is run away from your coach and don't let him give you the BFS program. It is a sure fire way to end your career due to poor implementation of the program.

Posted by: Rubes

wish i could get away from the BFS but its either that or dont lift. keep good form on squat and dead lift and cleans only thing i have problems with is bench because of my shoulders have started to wear a brace on the right one for more support seems to be helping a little bit.

Posted by: P-funk

what is wrong with your shoulders?

what is the depth like on the squat?

can you lift somewhere else?

Posted by: Rubes

right shoulder got torn out in 8th grade wrestling did not realize it untill football when i could bearly move my arm because of the constant pounding on it. left one just dislocates every now and then. for my squats im normaly at 90deg or below. only way i could lift somewhere else is if i saved up to buy my own weights

Posted by: P-funk

90 degrees of what? 90 degrees of knee flexion is not very deep. Are the tops of your quads parallel to the floor?

With those shoulder problems i would probably nix the olympic lifts and stick to plyos.

Posted by: Rubes

tops of quatds are parallel. had surgery on the right one over a year ago its just getting it back to 100% thats taking forever. if i told my coach that i couldnt do them he would tell me quit bein a pussy and lift hes a dick

a) your coach is a moron.

b) if you follow his lead and risk fucking up your shoulder then you are a moron.

Nothing like destroying your body for high school football!

Posted by: Rubes

i know my coach is a moron. ive been thinking of not playing because of my shoulders and just running track or playing baseball

I would try and get a job and hit it hard this summer with a good strength coach who can really help you out.

Posted by: Rubes

i think thats what im going to do thanks and happy early bday

Posted by: P-funk

i think in mich. but don't know if he is in your area. i may be able to possibly find someone to refer you to.

Posted by: Rubes

Posted by: P-funk

Posted by: Rubes

I can second that. They are assholes, I took a look in their routine just to see Why the football is always hogging benchpress and squat. It said 10x10bench press 5x12sqaut...basically, if a 15 years old registered to this forum with no knowledge of lifting comes and makes a thread about How does his routine sounds like and you basically laugh. Thats what it is.
The kids in football did 70lbs bench press last september, now its may when i workout they are all benching around 90lbs.. for this much time i think thats not as progressive.

Posted by: Duncans Donuts

I could take a football team and have them do 45 minutes of resistance training a week and have them improve their strength so fast it would be unbelievable. But football coaches will do the opposite, run them into the ground when they are already tired and stressed from school and doing tons of drills and practice.

Most coaches are retarded. Ridiculous volume, near every day frequency, and isolation exercises up the ass. I would lie to him and tell him your Dr wants you to do a different program.

As for your maxes, assuming proper technique, those are very good. Don't know if I would be maxing out, especially with the bench and cleans while having a bad shoulder. You can figure out your loads from your 4rm and lower your risk of injury. Regardless, I would lay off the pressing if it bothers your shoulder. I get people all of the time mention their shoulder/s are bad, and when I avoid pressing they downplay the injury like it is nothing. Stupid.

Posted by: P-funk

yea, I know a lot of coaches put stress on the 1RM in those exercises. I just don't get why though? You can learn everything you need to know from a 3RM imo and plan from there.

Agreed P.

my old coach's workout was halfway good i guess. he had us doing ATG squats, military press, rows, leg press, and etc. but it wasnt that great. he had us doing bb curls, tricep extensions, and i hella lot of isolation . i actually didn't stick to the workout. i did my own routine . he sent us to the weightroom to do the workout while god knows wtf he was doing. (so it was un supervised) while other people were doing bb curls and shit i was doing deads , wg pullups, dips and etc. and guess what, i was the strongest on the team weighing 160lbs

EDIT** - BTW, decent maxes, but it looks like your bench is kinda lagging not trying to insult you or anything just sayin....

Posted by: Double D

Na bench is right where it should be for a football player. Really bench means very little for an athlete compared to something like squats.

Posted by: Rubes

my coach is a dumb ass thats all i know. he wants to move me from RB/FB to WR just because i can jump high. hes already made me his bitch on D switchin me from linebacker to saftey

A) 99% of highschool coaches are the exact same, not just his.

B) If he doesn't participate, than he can't play...and where I'm from (Texas), it's pretty much the most popular thing to do.

On that note, however, I quit athletics after jr. high, because they had us doing shitty workouts 24/7.
Such as squat and bench EVERY day mon-fri.

Most kids don't care though, they just want to play.

I don't care about sports, so i quit and did my own thing.
