Posted by: IainDaniel

try not to get pinned.

Posted by: danny81

lol. alright.

Posted by: Rubes

if someone is trying to tie up with you take a shot.

Posted by: danny81

what does take a shot mean? like try for a takedown?

Posted by: Rubes

yeah try for a takedown we say take a shot at my school or shoot

Posted by: danny81

oo. alright. i know what a shoot is.

Posted by: Rubes

oh and watch your nose someone will try and take it off

Posted by: danny81

alright. what do you recomend I wear? wrestling shoes, shorts, t-shirt, cup, and headgear? also the head gear and cup could they come from k-mart or should i invest in more high quality ones?

Posted by: Rubes

headgear, shorts, t-shirt, wrestling shoes. i dont wear one anymore but i used to get the ones from k-mart or wal-mart they all work the same

Posted by: danny81

rly you dont wear headgear? why? do you recomend it for beginers?

Posted by: Rubes

i wear head gear i got it from a sports store. i was talking about a cup for not wearing one.

Posted by: danny81

oo alright. I was thinking of not wearing a cup because they hurt when i move around.

Posted by: Rubes

thats why i dont wear one just buy a pair of compression shorts and you should be fine

Posted by: BoneCrusher

Did you watch that clip in the wrestling slams thread? Almost ALL throws start when the guy getting tossed over commits with the upper body. Study that clip as much as you possibly can this week .

Posted by: danny81

yah i watched the clip. and I will get some compression shorts.

Posted by: BigDyl

After your wrestling camp, go challenge a BJJ fighter, since they suck at wrestling anyways, you have nothing to worry about.

Posted by: danny81

who said they suck at wrestling? also 1 week of wrestling is not going to make me that good.

Posted by: Rubes

is it a freestyle folkstyle or G-R camp?

Posted by: danny81

folk

Posted by: Rubes

ok. dont get used to locking your hands for folk style you cant do it unless you have the arm and head encircled . and work on cradles when you are there.

Posted by: danny81

alright. thanks alot.

Posted by: danny81

What kinda stuff did they have ya do on the first day?

Posted by: danny81

well it wasnt so much as a beginer course as it was a clinic. i was actually the only beginer =\, but w.e. first i did a drill where you would grab each other and just push and pull each other around. next we did the same thing, but we dropped down and grabbed the one guys leg. next we worked on something called the turk. then we worked on the turk with a pin. then we did something called ride the bull. then we added in 2 ways to pin someone from ride the bull. then the last 30 min we wrestled it was 3 people and you would rotate the people in and out. i lost everytime, but that was mainly because it was my first time wrestling and they hav been wrestling for years. although near the end i was able to hold my own.

Nice. Sounds like you had fun. You'll have a good jump on the competition come next school year. Keep at it.

(pun intended)

Posted by: danny81

any tips on the penetration step? or any drills?

Posted by: Rubes

make sure you have wrist controle then move them around untill you get whatever leg forword that you want then take a shot grab it and take them down

Posted by: danny81

do you recomend any leg to have forward. i am a righty so for boxing i know i keep my left leg forward so hsould i keep my left leg forward or right?

Posted by: Malley

I got zero advice, but good luck to you Danny. Its good you are trying to become experienced in everything you can. Best of luck.

Posted by: danny81

thanks. i started out wrestling in order to help advance my ground game in UFC but it is really fun and i want to get much better. i am guessing in a MMA fight i would put my left foot forward so i guess i should practice with that while wrestling. is that right?

Posted by: ReproMan

How did the hand feel today? Any better?

Posted by: danny81

yah. i worked well with it. i really didnt think about it most of the time while wrestling. im guessing it was just a bad bruise or something. it did swell up badly tho. the only time it hurt was when i was hand fighting and it got slapped hard and when i got tooken down and llanded on the hand

Well that's good. Just keep icing it, it'll get better in no time.

As for training for the UFC thing, I would practice wrestling when you are wrestling. Learn everything they have to teach you, and when you finally get to train MMA specifically, you can apply the things you learned at wrestling to your MMA training.

One thing at a time my friend, you'll get there.

Posted by: danny81

thanks. so should i start with my right foot forward?

Are you right-handed or left? I wouldn't go changing things just to change them. Just keep drilling what they teach you at camp and everything will fall into place.

You've got more than most already by having the drive to do what you are doing. The rest will fall into place when the time comes.

Posted by: danny81

they teach if your righty to go right or lefty to go left. so i will go right

Posted by: BoneCrusher

danny have you looked into plyometrics? Great stuff.

Posted by: danny81

yah. i have. i am planni on doing them after a few months of lifting. good idea or should i start sooner?

The short description of plyometrics is that this is a way of exercising the muscles for a repetitive impact sport. This system helps you prevent injuries from fast movements, or from strong energies suddenly placed on a muscle group. It vastly improves your ability to maintain muscle exertion for long periods of time, and increases your power and strength through the entire range of motion. The added increase of burst speed is hard to get from other forms of exercise.

Jumping rope is a plyometric exercise. So are clap push-ups. Seated twists are killer for a full core exercise. I'll take a stack of plates and set them next to me and slightly behind. Then I'll grab a plate and place it on the other side of me while doing as much of the work from the waist as possible. When the stack is done I'll rinse and repeat so the weights are back where they started. I'll start out slow with low weights the first few times then increase my speed as I go. Now imagine using that same motion when on your feet vs. your opponent ... with extreme power and speed.

Plyometrics is the shiznit for wrestling. I'm do ply's for bj. It's helped out my stamina and reduced the quantity of sore days big time.

First and foremost you have a wrestling coach. Go and ask HIM what he thinks of ply's. Different people have different methods so go with what coach say over anything you hear here. Within reason that is. He's prolly a good coach, but I've seen some real idiots wearing a coach's whistle.

Posted by: danny81

wel i do some plyos. i jump rope and twist situps. i will ask him. thanks
