Can I feed my yolks to the dogs?

Obviously a few yolks isn't going to hurt a dog, but I eat maybe a dozen egg whites for breakfast and maybe another dozen later in the day. Only one of the dogs ever gets up with me in the morning (the other two always sleep in, it's wierd) so he's been getting all the morning yolks. I worry that it may be too much for him (fat, colesterol, etc). Any thoughts?

are you serious?? you eat 24 eggs a day? wow. i eat 3-4 for breakfast and thats it but i eat it with the yellows.

I wouldnt. I dont know that much about dogs, but I would think they would be just as prone to something like a heart attack as a person would be.

I think for the most part human food is bad for dogs...I'm sure a lot is harmless but I've had bad experience. Obviously stuff like chocolate is bad, but also more natural stuff. My friend and I fed his dog beef jerky and he was shitting all over his house for 3 straight hours.

I eat six meals a day, three hours apart, 550cals each meal, 45%carbs:35%protein:20%fat and absolutely no processed food of any kind. Whole food only. 10egg whites, 3pc sprouted-grain toast & 1½tblsp peanut butter makes a damned-near perfect breakfast.

Oh! And I'm staying ripped while growin' muscles like a m****r f****r too!

I have a few hunting dogs and I put yolks over their food all the time. Dogs have some pretty strong stomachs. The yolks seems to make their coat look better as well. Must be from all the vitamins and crap in the yolks. They haven't ever thrown up or anything from them and they haven't died so I'm guessing it's perfectly safe.

Don't wild dogs raid nests for eggs!? It's natures best protein. Surely some dog some-time-or-other stumbled across a nest and figured it made pretty good eatin'! I doubt the same could be said for sugar-coated, terriyaki, dehydrated, processed, beef jerky!

Anyone else got any bright ideas on the subject of dogs eatin' egg yolks?

A dog's life is to short to be worrying about cholesterol and shit. As long as they don't become overly fat where they can't move, I hate when I see that, they'll be fine.

Dogs in many ways feel the same as people if you feed them crap they will feel like crap. And personally I wouldnt want to go through life feeling like crap!

I think talk it over with your vet. If a dozen yolks is too much for a person at 160lbs, why would it be better for a dog (at a much lower body weight?). A couple of yolks can be part of their natural diets but I don't think 1 - dozen. Natural diets usually come up short in the vitamin department (which is where the yolks help). Dogs (and cats) have pretty specific diets and it would probably be a good idea to ask a vet.

The dog's body weight, daily activity and overall health would have to be considered when adding things to their diet.

Dogs are naturally a lot more carnivorous than humans... this means their diet would naturally have a lot more cholesterol. I think you would be fine but I'm not a vet.

I have heard from dog trainers that it is ok, just dont over do it. In fact, it was listed as a good food for them.

A couple per day is fine but holy shit.........do not give them all the yolks. That's not healthy for anyone.

A dog can eat green meat.

but 12+ yolks a day, every day will probably lead to gall stones and other health problems, i've read a study about it on rats. Let it be known that in the study they fed them a pure egg yolk / cane sugar diet and that a rat is not a dog..

If I fry eggs (3-6), ill dip some toast into the yolks, but whats left over I give to the dog. Shes always been fine. But this isnt everday.

I give my dog my yolks usually around 3-4.
Maybe try splittin the yolks up between the 3 dogs that way you won't be wasting them and one dog won't get too many.

I have a little frying pan, about 7" across. I put the stove-top on a little over medium (higher heat seems to stick the eggs to the pan), spray a little Pam sray, pour the whites in, then flip 'em when there's a good layer of cooked egg on the bottom. I make them like an white omlette. I don't like 'em scrambled up too much.

From start to finish, with 4pcs of toast buttered with 1.75tblsp of PB it's probably 10-12 minutes to make breakfast. No time at all really.

That's what I've been doing at the weekends.

During the week the two girl dogs don't want to get up with me in the morning, chosing to stay in bed with their Mum (my wife!) instead (she works a later shift).

Arthur (my border collie little man) gets up with me every day (even when he's crazy tired - it's cute. He'll be falling asleep sitting up, eye's drooping, head nodding etc... funny), so he was getting all the yolks for a while, but he'd often leave some, like he knew he'd had enough. These days I've been giving him maybe 4or5 them and he'll still maybe leave some. He hasn't puked or got any fatter off of them, so I think he's probably cool with it. His coat does look nice and shiny these days too. I think he's probably going to be OK with 4or5 in the morning. They do have a slightly different system to us too.

I changed my diet a little bit recently, upping my calories from 3,250 to 3,600 becuase I was still dropping weight. 4pc sprouted grain toast (Ezekiel 4:9), 1.75tblsp natural PB and 8eggs is the new breakfast of choice. It's 40%carb, 40%protein, 20%fat and a nice start to the day.

Buy an egg cooker. I have one and all you do is fill up cold water to the water line, put 4 eggs into the thing and microwave it for 9 minutes. It comes out perfectly and saves a lot of time.
