Posted by: AKIRA

Fuck it is? Better keep close to YouTube and Dailymotion...

I was reading on CNN.com that they were saying that this sort of fight brings the shame back to MMA.

Posted by: ReproMan

Found em.

Guess it hasn't happened yet.

Another live link.

Posted by: AKIRA

Hmph. Thanks for the tease Fetus.

There is the youtube 3 posts up.

Mercer was a former WBO heavyweight champ I believe. His boxing couldn't stop the guillotine.

Posted by: AKIRA

I read on the other thread that he called out Tank? Now thats a good fight.

Posted by: iMan323

Fedor will disassemble Kimbo.

They will never fight....

Kimbo has 1 professional fight, why in the world would a fight with Fedor even be considered?

Not to mention Fedor can beat anyone....

Posted by: iMan323

Fedor is my hero...I just really like seeing him beat up scary looking black guys....can't help it

Posted by: BigPapaPump68

I went to the fight. If mercer wasn't so old, fat and out of shape, the fight would have been alot better.

Posted by: the nut

Who trained Mercer? He looked lost.

I'm thinking that Kimbo just entered the bottom of the MMA foodchain. Who's next for Kimbo? It's obvious he wants a few MMA paychecks. He just earned $75,000 for beating up Mercer ...

Realistically speaking Kimbo could fight Tank. Tank's record is like 9-13. Basically Tank hits as hard as anyone (he ko'd Cabbage!!!) but can't fight for shit ... lol and he gases in the first 30 seconds. I'd like to see Tank vs Kimbo.

Sapp vs Kimbo....??

two big black dudes who can thump each other to death...That will be the only way to win, death

I would think Kimbo needs to beat a MMA heavyweight, before we have any idea what he can do in there. Cro Cop could be an exciting fight, he wouldn't really have to worry about the ground. But, I think Tank would be a good start.

'Cept for when he lands on it in about a short minute to take his nap ...

I'm not quite sure I understand the need to throw Kimbo in there against the best, or even the best of the worst (Sapp, Tank) immediately. Let the poor guy get his feet wet in MMA for God's sake. This was his FIRST FIGHT. Sure he was in there against a one dimensional bum, but he showed promise. He had pretty good instincts for the small amount of training he has under his white belt, and I'd like to see him brought along just like any other fighter starting out. It's been a short road for him coming from a thug winning backyard fights, to winning his first MMA fight via guillotine no less. I'd like to see him toss around at least 3-4 more bums THEN perhaps a rematch with Sean Gannon.

Patience people, he's still relatively young in MMA years.

No. I wanna see a Kimbo Slice MMA channel on national cable goddamnit Reality TV with people getting KTFO by Kimbo in high def. In his spare time he can slap that lil sawed off Igor Vovchanchyn around ... maybe win with an uma plata.

Seriously though ReproBro I was a big fan of Mercer when he first went pro. Don King got a hold of Ray around his 5th match and had him doing a tittle fight by his 9th. It destroyed Mercer's chance to mature as a fighter and ended his career early. He had a shot at being a wealthy guy by now, but instead he has to fight at 46 or starve. Of course King made millions out of Mercer's situation, but does he ever call?

Sooo okay Kimbo needs to fight a chump. Pick one.

Who should the next contestant be on the Slice is right show?

Bas did a good job with KIMBO. He FUCKED him up, end of story. Good job kimbo!!

So basically what you're saying is Kimbo fucked your boy up so we should throw him to the wolves?

What fighter's career did Don King not fuck up is the question. Mercer just got in line with the rest of them, and it's not like Don was selling them something they didn't want, he showed them the money and they took it. If watching what happened to Tyson wasn't clue enough, I don't know what is. Mercer should have done some sleuthing.

Bottom line is Kimbo has the tools to make some noise as a big man. The next Fedor? Not a chance. But the next Tim Sylvia? Maybe.

I just don't see the necessity to toss this guy in against top competition because he is marketable. He's been planted. Give him some Miracle Grow, some water, a little sunlight and step back. Should be pretty fun to see what he can learn with more coaching.

P.S. Mercer won the WBO title in his 17th fight. Defended vs. Morrison, Lost it to Larry Holmes in his 19th. Fought Evander to a UD loss and got robbed of a decision vs. Lennox Lewis. He got TKO'd by W. Klitschko but that was years after his prime in 2001. He had a pretty damn good career.

Posted by: Hoglander

Tim Sylvia...... LMAO. The guy with the idea of fighting Tank sounds much better, IMHO. Give him someone slow or with little skill is the bottom line so I guess both are of interest. That's fine but give Kimbo a chance and give him Tank.

You're 43 and you failed to comprehend a 10th grade level paragraph. Congrats.

OK, sorry you said "...Tim Sylvia? Maybe. ..." underline "maybe." Sounds like we are on the same page. : )

I know man I was too lazy to dig up his stats and post real numbers (still am ). I did watch all his fights though. He won that heavy weight tittle when it was still new by beating some guy with an Italian sounding name who never fought a top contenteder. The WBO was still new then, and still sucks now. All the handy work of King.

Can't count Morrison and his glass jaw, though it was a good showing for Mercer with a total destruction of Tommy boy. All the way up to that fight with Holmes he was put in with people he was expected to beat. Guys like Bowe, Tubbs, Thomas, McCall, Biggs all top contenders then and all avoided during his formative years as a pro. Mercer just didn't get his dose of miracle grow.

Mercer fought a lot of lower quality fighters, and a few at the end that were knowns. He didn't get the right fights early in his career like he needed so it went wrong for him at the end when he needed that experience. Those last years were the money years, and he just did not have a solid list of defeated knowns in his stats to earn a big PPV draw so he never got the big money. That is just MHO. Of course ... I could be wrong.

PS ... that Lennox fight was outstanding. It was also a draw from where I saw it, and I was sober that time (if being stoned counts as sober that is).

Wrong. I never suggested he fight him, I simply said that Kimbo could be on his level some day.

Exactly.

Wow Kimbo really picked up on the MMA style quick, I saw knees and elbows, takedowns and chokes...he shows a lot of promise and to top it off he has a killers instinct. And that beard, that beard is a nice pad to keep the punches softer. If he can work on some kicking action I think he has a chance to go a long way...

His transitions were good for a noob. It will be interesting to see who he fights next. Like ReproBro says though, hope it isn't someone too high up the food chain.

Miracle-gro ... . Perfect philosophy!!!

Anyone know of a good clip showing a solid chin-check?

Good question. I just went through a bunch and even Gannon didn't catch him with a good shot.

Posted by: ReproMan

Yeah that was right on the temple, put him down even.

Posted by: BoneCrusher

Have we really seen a chin check though? Not the shot that catches him over committed and sends him down from a loss of balance and then he just gets right back up and beats the snot outta someone. We need to see the kind of punch that Tank would throw.

Solid well connected chin checks.

Ray Mercer tried his hand at mixed martial arts this weekend. The result? He's sticking with boxing.

"I walked right into his trap," Mercer said, according to the Philadelphia Daily News. "It was like I put my head in his armpit and said, 'Go ahead, choke me.' From now on, I'm sticking to boxing. I can't get choked out in boxing."

SOURCE

... I'm still a fan of the old Ray Mercer. Sad retirement plan for an Olympic Gold Medalist.

Kimbo against Tank Abbot this sept. Should be a good little fight, I think if Kimbo has a good ground he will pwn Tank

Posted by: BoneCrusher

Kimbo has a Wiki page ...

Posted by: BoneCrusher

While reading that Wiki this lil tidbit confirmed biggs post about the Kimbo vs Tank match-up:

"Shortly after his MMA debut victory Kimbo agreed to fight MMA legend, Tank Abbott on September 14, 2007 at CFFC 6. After his debut victory, while giving cage in interview; Kimbo exchanged words with David "Tank" Abbot - mostly Tank taunting; shouting to Kimbo "we can do it (fight) in a parking lot - right now!". Strikeforce Heavyweight Paul "The Headhunter" Buentello has also expressed interest in fighting Kimbo Slice."

It's going happen. Now the excitement begins. Can Bas prepare Kimbo for a guy like Tank? Tank is no different than Kimbo is as far as origin goes ... he's an old street fight that hit the UFC back in the day. Now he's gonna get hit by Kimbo.

Posted by: ReproMan

Kimbo wins another one.

Posted by: ReproMan

Kimbo interview.

Posted by: TrojanMan60563

Fedor would make Kimbo look like a fool....Kimbo isn't special...he is a street fighter that beats up people that can't fight...and most of his fights have been MUCH smaller people....I'm not that impressed with Kimbo at all....it won't take long for a real pro fighter to put him in his place.

Posted by: iMan323

If Mercer had any ground skill at all, I think this fight would've ended differently...
