Peanut Butter & Omega 3

I read recently that Peanut Butter is high in Omega 6 oils. I also read that the body prefers to receive Omega 3 and Omega 6 oils in equal amounts. If there's more 3 than 6 that's OK, but if there's more 6 than 3 the body can't utilize it very well. Something like that anyway.

If I'm eating Peanut Butter, high in Omega 6 oils, should I ideally be supplementing some Omega 3 oils with it for better absorbtion/utilization/whatever?

Hah! I just bought the same shit. Some peanut butter with omega 3s.

2 tpspn = 200 calories. That bad?

Didn't you ever read the stickies?

Yes, you need omega 3's. There is so much omega 6's in ones diet and they don't even realize it. Not just peanut butter either. Chicken, steak, eggs, grains, nuts, just about everything has some 6's in it. That's why it's extremely important to get enough omega 3's in your diet to offset the 6's.

Fish oils are pure omega 3's.

Peanut butter is high in Monounsaturated fats. It is a good source of Omega 6.

Typical North american diet has around a 20:1 ration of n6:n3, which is believed to be a link to alot of heart concerns. Ideally you want to have 2:1 to 4:1 of n6:n3. So absolutely find sources of n3 in your diet to balance out the types of fat that you consume.

Um... One problem... How do I know how much Omega 6 oil I'm currently eating? Nothing indicates how much is in it.

You could try NutritionData.com NutritionData's Nutrition Facts Calorie Counter

n6's generally are from nuts and grains.

n3's are generally from fish, naturally-fed animal sources, and some seeds.
