Sleeping after squats?

Due to my work schedule my workouts are usually around 4:00 in the afternoon. Lately it's been harder and harder to fall asleep on the nights where I've done a good hard squat routine. Anybody got any ideas why this may be happening and maybe some ways to help get to sleep? I take 5 mg of Melatonin about an hour before bed every night and that works great, except for squat nights.

I have never had this problem.

It could just be higher nuerological activation or a larger endorphin rush that is keeping you awake and alert.

What time do you go to sleep?

I usually go to bed between 9:00 and 10:00 PM. This past Tuesday night I didn't actually go to sleep at all. Wednesday SUCKED, especially since I was in a class all day.

That's what I was thinking, but need to find a safe way to come back down. It's cool in that it means I got a good workout, but the lack of sleep sure doesn't help promote growth.

do you do a cool down after your workout, or do you just head home, eat and then try to sleep?

Try some meditationand controlled breathing 30-60 minutes before bed. Light some candles, listen to some relaxing music, etc.

Try some bedroom cardio.

Avoiding bright lights, especially computer monitors, is good too.

I get the same thing, but usually after I play hockey.

I am just wired.

Luckily, I'm already at home. I've got a pretty complete set-up in a spare bedroom.

No cool down. Post workout shake then T.V., maybe some reading, my last meal of the day then bed.

I told my wife that it would be a great help if I could just lay down and relax while she performed some slow oral relaxation technique on me. For some reason she's not buying that.

maybe you should try doing a cooldown and some stretching to help relax the nervous system.

Things I SHOULD be doing anyway. Thanks, I'll give it a try.
