OK I been running 4 days per week (approx 3 miles/run) so I can be in better cardio shape & so I can lose my gut. BUT at the same time I'm working out 5 days per week trying to build muscle. I've been eating properly, but I've also heard I might be wasting my time trying to build since I'm doing so much cardio.

Please any advice will help....thanks

Seems to me like you're tryin to do 2 things at the same time. In order to lose weight you have to go on a calorie deficit (expend more than you put in). You said you're tryin to build muscle, this requires a bigger caloric consumption than what youd normally put in. Thats the basic info i can give you right off the bat.. for more info read the stickies and the more experienced guys will also be able to help you much more.

ok how bout this...what if i say screw my gut (im not fat at all anyways) and I go running 5 days/ week just for my cardio health...& I work out those 5 days at nite but really lift hard to try to build...will i still be able to put on A LOT of muscle this way???

no.

you will need to really organize your diet (paticularly post workout stuff) and your workouts to achieve what you want.

I'd say it all depends on caloric intake. If you were drinking BCAA's before and after your running and cosuming enough cals, I don't see a problem with it, but you're making it WAY harder to gain LBM.

So you're telling me I have a chance!!! Now all I have to do is figure out what the hell these BCAA branch chain amino acid things are and how to get them!

Serving two masters always will lead to mediocre results.

reading funk's blog on a regular basis has improved my status as a personal trainer.

knowing what a smart guy you are, that is a huge compliment.

is there something wrong with your website? I tried to go to it the other day and I couldn't log on.

There was someone here looking for a trainer in the San Diego area, aren't you around there?

I check it with great frequency. My website is down because I'm still getting as much hands on training as I can before opening my own studio. Also about to finish up the degree and such.

I'm about 100 miles North of San Diego. I visit there once a month or so. Who was looking for a trainer?

I spent about an hour today reading some of his blog entries. Not that I wasn't by his everyday answers here on the board, but I'm impressed.

It's too bad he's gay.

DD,

What was your major? I decided on Sports Journalism, just because I've always stood out in English classes more than anything else, but I want to minor in whatever it is you majored in.
