Need some ideas here since I'm trying to figure out a meal schedule for this semester. The problem is that on Thursdays I have a 6 hour block of classes, and I'm trying to figure out how to pack a meal for in-between one of them. For carbs I can just do some fruit or something, fats I can pack some nuts, but I can't figure out a good protein source.

Meats are out because I can't keep them cold, same liquid protein shakes, same with cottage cheese.

I was thinking maybe powdered skim milk and whey as an option - anyone have an idea how that would go over (disgusting? decent?). Taste isn't a huge deal, it just can't be vomit inducing

Tuna, salmon (canned). Cook some meat, freeze it and time the defrost so its good to eat when you need it.

protein in a shaker and stop at the drinking fountain and fill'er up

or get one of those cold pack lunch baggies.. its the size of a lunch bag, but insulated. then keep a chx breast in there or something

You can pack a sandwich which should hold you over for a few hours.

Another really easy one is to put a 1 - 1.5 scoops of whey and 1/2 - 1 cup of ground (coffee grinder) oats in a shaker cup, then whenever you need your protein just hit a water fountain. Then just take a piece of fruit with you as well for some solid food or a sandwich.

tuna
whey (just add water)
boiled eggs

Yea I should have mentioned I don't do whey without milk really - for some reason it's ridiculously disgusting to me - I gagged both times I tried it

Oberto Beef Jerky:

1 serving = 1g fat, 7g carbs, 11g proteins.

get some syntrax nectar or some other fruity type flavor...they taste good in water

beef jerky, but the natural kind, not the kind with sodium nitrite in it. although beef jerky has like half a days supply of sodium.

Any thoughts on Champion Nutrition Ultramet?

Champion Ultramet Value Pack - 60 Packs

Throw that in there and bring a small apple with me, and I should be good for that meal. Now I know some of you will say "BUT THERES TOO MANY SIMPLE CARBS!"

I completely agree. However, this is for only 1-2 meals out of 42 potential meals per week, and I'm willing to take that small hit for the convenience of not having to worry about how to keep something cool or stinking up the classroom with fish. That and it tastes great - Champion had a booth at my college's wellness fair last Friday so I got to try it out

buy a little cooler from walmart. fill it with ice. wrap some cooked chicken, steak or hamburger in tin foil and throw it in there. throw a banana or an apple in there. scoop out some peanut butter wrap it in some wax paper and throw it in there. just keep the cooler in your car and when u get a break from class just go out there and chow down.

You could mix whey with peanut butter.

The issue here is a 6 hour straight block of class, often hitting 7 hours. There is no break for that.

But you will not drink whey in water? WTF?

Also I usually just mix a shake in the blender and take it with me, I have a very similar schedule. Also tuna is great

Heres what I do before my class...1 scoop whey, 1 scoop casien, 1 cup oats, 1 tbsp pb blend it up, and toss it in a shaker cup...4 hours later i chug it in 45 sec (i timed it) while im talking to the bathroom to take a piss.

but if you made the entire shake, with the whey, oats, whatever in it, and milk or water. isnt that not good if you dont plan to drink it soon? like i always thought you were just supposed to get all the ingredients together and THEN add the water or milk when youre able to drink it?

oh and by the way. heres what i usually do for my schedule. i work from 6:30isham to 5ish pm. i bring a lunch bag thats nice and insulated and i put a nice big ice pack at the bottom. i bring things like: a protein bar, an apple or banana, tuna in a pouch, put some almonds in a baggy, chicken breast (yea theyre cold, but seasoned with mrs dash so theyre damn good anyways), cottage cheese in a nice tightly sealed container (i manage to keep my lunch bag pretty cold so this hasnt been a problem yet), grilled chicken strips (also but, but still taste just fine..good actually), and also some times i bring a couple slices of whole grain wheat bread. there a couple other things but cant remember them right now. but yea i just got my lunch bag with the big ice pack and all my food stored in either containers or a baggy. works fine so far. also bring plastic silverware along in there. if anything maybe youd be able to bring it along with you and munch on it while sitting in class, or maybe theres a time when you have just a small enough break to where you could chow down real quick.
