They burn like a motherfucker if I am ever doing anything that involves running... I don't feel anything in my glutes or abs.. so does this mean they are overactive? How can I stop this, will stretching them make it even worse?

Also what type of shower is good to ease soreness. I heard hot from people, and I also heard cold, or contrast, so which one is it?

it sounds like you have a problem with your running form.

You're not supposed to feel your lower back at all during running.

Depending on the damage, muscle soreness is usually elevated by contrast showers.

When I was much, much lighter, I used to run 3x's weekly. I was fit as a fiddle. Endurance was through the roof. I enoyed it and always made great gains in fitness.

When I decided to put on mass and hit the weights 3x's a week I virtually did no running at all. I got big in no time. BF and lots of muscle was up! But that was my goal.

Neway when I went through a phase of wanting to gain fitness and drop abit of bf I started up running again. Boy, did my lower back get sore as hell, it burned to the point I couldn't even stand up, my ankles also, felt wrecked, a real ache.

So the only difference I could see, I was alot heavier and stronger. I couldn't live through the pain of doing just the running nvm still hitting the weight's. So I figured I was too heavy and strong to run, I was at the other end of the spectrum and my joints and connective tissue was not longer structured to run.

I guess its just a case of Adaption. However in my opinion I would have had to slash out most of my lifting to become a better runner I wasn't prepared to do that. Depends on ur goal IMO, theres a fineline between strength and conditioning, but strength is at the other end of the specturm to endurace.

Hope that makes sense, just bare it in mind. As for ur recovery question, yea contrast showers have been shown to aid recovery. But pay attention to sleep and diet too. Lots of water, fish caps wouldnt hurt either.
