Brain Aneursyms

Wow. Someone please chime in here to ease my fears, or atleast explain to me what's going on.

About a year ago I got a similar headache to alot of bodybuilders...It was a headache that I got exerting myself on bench press that came on suddenly, and kept coming back every workout (even light) for 2 weeks. So I took a week off, and it finially subsided.

Just for the hell of it I went to a see a neurologist, and he sent me for a MRI/MRA and they we're both clear. This was in November 06.

---------------------

Three weeks ago I was doing bench press again, same thing happened except this time the headache was more intense, unusual, and I got a really nautious. I tried not to freak out too much and I kept working out, but it didn't get worse. Just stayed the same and kept throbbing in and out. I worked out for another 30 minutes with this throbbing, and went home and went out to eat for a cheat meal.

The next morning/day the headache was still there but very dull, next day same thing, and then finially the third day it seemed to fully reside. My workout 3 days later was fine.

I was wondering if this could have just been some kind of exercise related exercise, I do remember focusing on breathing (I have since the first episode a year ago) but I may have held my breath? About a 1-2 weeks after I had all kinds of neck pain, so that is what really freaked me out.

I went back to the Neurologist, and he sent me to a specialist who is a Interventional Radiologist / Surgeon and I finially saw him 2 days ago. He said it's possible I could have a small aneursym, or some other issue inside my head. He scheduled me for an Angiogram on October 5th. He said the Angiogram will be able to show anything.

I'm scared s%$#less. The angiogram looks pretty crazy, and I don't do well with needles, and stuff like that. They do have a non invasive test called a CTA, but he said it's not accurate enough?!?!

He told me to just work out moderate for the time being, but I've still been going heavy. Probably not the smartest. I'm going to Vegas in 4 days for the Olympia, so I'm probably going to be drinking a little, so I hope nothing goes wrong.

I mean the fact that I had a clear MRI/MRA a year ago, means I probably dont have anything huge, but I could still have something small that was missed

Anyone know anything about this stuff? I've been freaking out lately, thinking I could have a "rupture" any second.

Im no Dr bro,but if both tests came back negative, then I would say you are GTG.

Many things can bring on headaches, stress,bp,diet, your breathing while training,etc..I would look into these things first, especially the bp and make the necessary corrections.

My mother and both my best friends died from aneurysms. My mother's was completely out of the blue. We knew she had issues with her blood pressure and she was on med's for that, but this just came from nowhere. The first bro was also out of the blue. One minute all was good the next it was a headache, he dropped to the floor and that was it. The last one had headaches same as my mom and my other bro. We were all freaked out. He went and got tests but nothing showed up in those tests. He head more headaches and we all bugged him to go get second and third opinions. More tests and still nothing, then the angioplasty that revealed small blood vessels in his brain that were bursting. He was put on medications and dietary restrictions ... no help. We buried him a year later from a cerebral aneurysm.

This is serious shit. Not any single thing that can even remotely be considered a risk factor should be allowed to be a part of you life.

You are better off now than you would have been 20 years ago when this all happened in our lives. New treatment will keep you well, but you cannot ignore anything here ... serious as a heart attack.

I have a false aneursym on my temple which is luckily outside my skull, I am currently waiting to get it operated on. Anything inside the skull is way more dangerous. I get similar headaches like you and wonder if I should get looked at also.

I agree with BC, you need to keep getting tested until the specialists can get an etiology for the headaches. Sure it could just be a little hypertension from the strenuous w/o but it could be way more serious than that. Aneurysms are difficult to discover and treat but its possible, you really need to rule out serious causes with specialists who know about these things. Good luck bro, keep us updated.

Update...Got blood taken today so they can know a few things before the xray. The xray is next Friday, so I'll give you an update after that.

Had a Cerebral Angiogram...Good news...Everything is normal...Bad news...Can't hit the weights til next Friday (I just took a week off this week)

Anyways...What now? I'm going to follow up with a neurologist, but what caused this headache? It didn't seem like an EIH.

Also my neck is still aching...I'm guessing my next best bet is a sports medicine doctor or a chiropractor.

P.S. What the heck do I do for the next week? How bad is it to take 2 weeks off (the past week, and now this week?) My diet is already going to garbage, as it's hard to stay motivated to eat clean when I'm sititng around. I'm still semi-clean but more commercialzed clean (like subway subs, whole food stuff, wraps, etc) I guess clean enough.

Thats good news. I'm very interested in this, last Thursday I was doing bent rows and started seeing stars (which has happened before) then next set of 3 I got a severe pain in my head like it was in a vice. I stumbled around and felt very sick. I still had the headache but not as severe 24 hours later and I tried to workout but after a light bench I had to stop and go home. It is still slightly there but I hope it will be ok for tonights workout.

r0dxx, take the week off. Its not gonna kill you. Eat as clean as you can, but don't sweat the little stuff man. In the grand scheme of things, 2 weeks are like 2 drops in a bucket.

Do you guys check your BP regularly? hypertension can cause headaches and strenuous exercise can exacerbate an htn condition. Other than that, its close to impossible to help anyone over the internet with such things. Hell its hard to diagnose anyone with anything when one has access to proper diagnostic tests and such (a lot of it is just trial, error and elimination which is why laypersons like to talk trash about dr's being incompetent, but there are so many things that can be going on with one's body its difficult to find a clear cut answer). Good luck guys and keep us posted.
