o man were back .5 games im freaking out here. well if we dont win im juss gunna have to pray the yankees lose first round

NY and Philly are tied with 73 losses each. SD got beat today and they have 72 losses. Colorado has 73 losses with 2 left against Arizona.

Anybody know what happens if all four teams wind up with 73 losses? Colorado still has some work to do, but it's not impossible.

I think NY plays at Philly for the division title, but what then?

The article didn't cover the scenario I posted.

Posted by: Triple Threat

I finally found it on yahoo sports.

Sunday's postseason scenarios - MLB - Yahoo! Sports

Padres lose, Rockies win, Mets win, Phillies win
All four teams finish 89-73, meaning the NLDS cannot begin until Thursday. Mets visit Phillies on Monday to determine East champion.

The Rockies, Padres and Monday's loser remain tied. The Rockies have the best head-to-head record among the three (regardless of whether Mets or Phillies lose). The Rockies either can choose to play a home game Tuesday and, if they win, a home game Wednesday, or they can opt to let the Padres and the East runner-up play Tuesday, with the winner hosting the Rockies on Wednesday.

If the Rockies choose to play Wednesday on the road, the Padres would host the Mets or visit the Phillies on Tuesday, with the winner hosting the Rockies on Wednesday for the wild card.

If the Rockies choose to stay at home, the Phillies (if they lost to the Mets on Monday) or Padres (if the Phillies beat the Mets) would choose to play Tuesday at the Rockies, then (if they win) Wednesday at home against the Padres or Mets, OR simply play Wednesday at the winner of Padres-Rockies or Mets-Rockies.

I don't know about that. I throw harder than Pedro does right now.

New York Post - The Mets' bullpen has been a mess for most of the season, and Billy Wagner evidently is tired of the pitchers involved shouldering the blame. In a New York magazine article that hits newsstands tomorrow, Wagner points a finger at Willie Randolph and pitching coach Rick Peterson as part of the problem.

"We've been throwing four innings a night - for months!" Wagner told the magazine. "Our pitching coach has no experience talking to a bullpen. He can help you mechanically, but he can't tell you emotions. He has no idea what it feels like. And neither does Willie. They're not a lot of help, put it that way."

It seems like the Mets are in shambles. Go Philly!

Mets are following suit the last few weeks down 7-1 in the 3rd.

Posted by: ReproMan

Ooops, 8-1 now.

Posted by: bigss75

Go Rockies!!

You should see the band wagoners everyone wearing rockies hat tshirts. The begining of the season I was getting laughed at for wearing that stuff

Posted by: I Are Baboon

Hard to believe the Mets are not going to be in the playoffs ths season. They were suposed to be the best team in the NL.

Must suck to be a Mets fan right now.

Two biggest baseball chokes I can think of belong to NY teams.

This and the Yanks blowing a 3-0 game lead in the ALCS against the Red Sox..

Hey the Jays blew a 3.5 game lead with 7 to go. If that makes you feel any better.

No!

Posted by: min0 lee

I'm used to the Mets failures, they have always played second fiddle to the Yanks.

Now all I hear from my other half is
M. ost
E.nd
T.his
S.eason

or
M. y
E.ntire
T.eam
S.ucks
It's going to be a long fall here.

Laugh bitch. He did say the were going to win. You bitch.

Jimmy Rollins laughs last as Phillies win NL East

Quote:
PHILADELPHIA - Jimmy Rollins was right after all.
The Phillies, whom Rollins declared the "team to beat in the NL East" in January, will make their first postseason appearance in 14 years as the division champion. Philadelphia's MVP candidate saw to it by going 2-for-3 with a triple, an RBI and two runs scored in yesterday's 6-1 victory.

Glavine sure came through.

Posted by: IainDaniel

What?!?! he gave a 1/3 of an inning

Posted by: I Are Baboon

Hey, things could be worse for the Mets. They...uhhhh....hmmm...

I got nothin'.

Posted by: Triple Threat

The Mets need pitching, right? This might be the chance for Boston to get rid of Gagne.

Posted by: soxmuscle

Gagne is a free agent. Leave it up to Omar Minaya to relinquish two draft picks to have Eric Gagne blow games in a middle relief role.

Posted by: I Are Baboon

Gagne is not Dominican. Omar Minaya would not be interested.

He did that already.

That's obvouis, it's biting him in the ass now.

Posted by: min0 lee

This.

The historical context must be especially sweet in the City of Brotherly Love. In 1964, Gene Mauch's Phillies blew a 6-1/2-game lead with 12 games left to play. Now they are the beneficiaries of a similar collapse

Tom Glavine allows seven runs in just 1/3 of an inning. Not the outing anyone expected.
Unreal, he is supposed to be a big game picture.

Damn.

Feeling frustrated, humiliated and angry, Mets fans are in need of a psychologist's couch to get over a historic mental meltdown.
After a year of being supremely confident in their team's World Series chances, the Amazin' faithful suddenly find themselves edged out of the playoffs.
"It's a disaster," said Dr. Frederic Kass, a psychiatrist at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, who was at Shea Stadium yesterday to witness the Mets' season-ending defeat.
"I guess there's a degree of being stunned as opposed to chronic demoralization," Kass said.
Kass said the worst thing Mets fans can do is allow the team's debacle to color their hopes for next season.
"Once you've had a huge collapse, what's going to happen when the team does come back?" Kass said. "After you've gone through this, it could get in the back of your mind that it will happen again."
Kass predicts that once the Mets begin making off-season trades, the sour taste will begin to fade.
"By the time spring training opens, their hopes will be revived," said Kass, who recommends fans think of positive things like the team's young, talented roster and pitcher Pedro Martinez's comeback from injuries.
Dr. Judy Kuriansky, a New York clinical psychologist and Columbia University professor, said a big mistake would be for fans to exaggerate the team's failure.
"If their team's losing, they feel like a loser themselves and it can spin them into all kinds of emotional distress," said Kuriansky, author of "The Complete Idiot's Guide to a Healthy Relationship."
"It's important to separate yourself from the team's losing, to not think that you've lost in your own life," she said.
Pop psychologist Dr. Joyce Brothers said male Mets fans are likely to suffer a decrease in testosterone.
"A lot of what would have been some pretty wonderful sex went by the board," Brothers said.
"I think it's very hard to give up a gift that you had put in your pocket already," Brothers added. "There's a certain amount of humiliation going on, too."
She said it's crucial for fans not to do things that compound their troubles.
"Don't go out and torch cars like they do in some cities," she said.

I honestly wonder which is worse: That error, or the Mets collapsing over a two week period. It's kind of a toss up, I guess.

But Red Sox fans have the 2004 WS to fall back on. Mets fans have to live with this pain and embarrassment until something good happens.

They played like dogs, they don't deserve a playoff spot the way they played.

They need to get rid of their pitching coach, the so called guru. It's because of him Kazmir is gone.
El Duque is too old to rely on.
Pedro is breaking down.
Alou old.
Get rid of the card playing Rickey Henderson.
Let Randolph bring in his own people.

This is not so bad, you have to remember we had bad teams all the time.
The '62 Mets were awful but lovable, the 70's Mets were plain awful.
The 80's were a joy to watch till they got Juan Samuel, Coleman, Bonilla ...

Posted by: min0 lee

Let Green go.
Revamp the whole pitching staff.
Delgado must go.
