Can I eat pinto or northern beans fresh cooked and replace that for rice or pasta to get carbs? I like that it has a lot of fiber and high in protein...is it better then eating whole wheat pasta or rice?

I thought it would be good way to eat more protein without eating more meat.

I will consider still eating some green veggies too....just not a fan of them.

I go for the beans any time over pasta. I eat the pinto, great northern, lots of green beans.
I dump the can in a rinsing bowl and rinse to get rid of all the sodium in the juice then warm them up slowly. Not as tasty but still good.

Yes of course! They are full of fiber and protein albeit not complete protein, so it might be good to throw in some grain bread or brown rice too. I make a combo of beans and rice.

Ok sweet! Thanks Jodi. I will add some brown rice. Is 4oz really a normal portion of beans? It just seems small....maybe with some rice it will bulk up and feel like I ate more?

34FQTK I use the fresh beans not canned due to high sodium.

even if 4oz is a normal portion, eat 8oz or 12oz!!! plus, when u combine the rice w/ the beans it makes a complete protein so u got that much more protein in ur meal

Man 12oz of beans 3-4 times a day is going to have me on the pot. I was thinking I'll do a average sized tilapia filet along with 4-6 oz of beans. That should be good.

I am just trying to avoid bad carbs all together so I thought this would be a good way to cut pasta and some rice from my diet and gain some proteins at the same time.

i find no difference in regards to results when i eat brown rice, ww pasta, or beans. actually, i've been eating about 3-4 servings of whole wheat pasta a day (filling the rest of my carb needs with fruit, other vegetables) for my carbs over the last 2 months. i think i'm hooked before that i was eating mostly rice and beans, mostly. fat loss has been the same. don't be afraid of variety.

I love red lentils as one of my carb replacements.

I have read that beans can help regulate insulin levels in the meal you eat them and also the next one as well. Just a added benefit. (if it is true of course).

Thats due to the fiber.

UPDATE....I tried to eat 6oz of beans twice a day and its KILLING me....the gas is so bad...its like I fart and ready to fart again in 10 seconds...Not to mention the pains of gas too....My question is: will this go away over time?
