I know that results vary by person and workout schedule. But i have not been in a gym consistantly in years and as for a six pack that was back in high school. How long did it take some of ya'll to get the results you were looking for. I figure it will be a long road for me but hopefully not to long I'm 6'4" 235 with a little gut.

Define results. We all want something different.

The question is too ambiguous.
Where are you now?
What are your goals?
How do you plan to get there?

If you are new to lifting, and you start being consistent, usually pretty quickly. I remember when i first started lifting, i was so weak that i could barely military press an unloaded barbell, by the end of the first month I was able to press the barbell with 2 25 pound plates on it. That was doubling my strength in that movement in just 4 weeks. But as far as physical appearance, I guess the lower your body fat the sooner you will see results. As far as strength goes, it comes pretty quickly. Almost every beginner will see some pretty dramatic results in the first few months.

I've been lifting well over a year and still have not got the results I want. I guess I'll keep lifting.

I am just starting and would like to get back a six pack and eventually get to around 250 #'s just not the way i started.i do not know what my body fat percent is just yet. As for having a plan i am clueless right now i have read alot of post in here and some of the lifts memtioned i am not familiar with. The last time i lifted in a gym you were to work lower body one day and upper body the next, after reading post in here i have taken a step back and i am rethinking my plan of attack, any input as to were to start would be greatly appreciated.
RESULTS : i want to see muscle with no love handles or spare tires

I was the same as you like a couple months ago.....I found that working out is obviously important but for the love handles and stuff diet is huge....
for me I started with consistancy in the diet first without hardly working out , worked out once or twice a week...but changing from like 1 or 2 large meals a day to 6..and eating brown rice, oatmeal, vegetables, chicken and quiting drinking helped incredibly
After I got the diet down I started working out a lot and getting a routine going.....As well what I did a lot of the terms for the exercise all I did was go to google. Typed in the name of the excerise and usually the first couple results showed me the excercise and how to do it..
Hope this helps

If your goal is 250lbs @ 10% BF (this is based on having no love handles and seeing your abs) then you have a lot of work ahead of you.
Based on your description (6'4'' 235 with a small gut, and no relative workout experience in years) you're somewhere around 18-25%BF. Get your diet in check first, then decide on your training protocols and stick with it.
Just an FYI, I'm the same age as you and 6'4'' as well. When I seriously started lifting again almost 5 years ago I was 206lbs @ 10%. More than 4 years later I'm between 250-260 @ 10-12%.
Good luck

Im 15 now, I weigh 190, and I'm 5'7. I started working out July of last year. Before I couldn't bench near to my weight, but now I can max out at 225, so I know I'm getting stronger. My question is how come my chest doesn't seem to be growing anymore. I try to push myself by doing six reps of 185 for 3 sets on flat bench, but I just don't seem to be growing. What can I do?
