i had just woke up and was on my way to the gym when i stopped and picked up a gatorade energy bar for breakfast before i worked out.is this a smart thing to eat right before a workout?here are the stats on the bar.

total fat 5g total carb 46g
saturated fat 1g fiber 2g
cholesterol 0mg sugars 19gt
sodium 170mg protein 8g

Not at all, jonny! It's got a ton of sugar and very little protien. You'd be better off having some 'real' food or a shake or a 'real' protien bar...but the 'real' food is your best bet.

WOW !! 19gm of sugar !! That's more like a bulking post workout snack if you ask me. Like Miss L says, stick to real foods. Keep the sugar part of the carbs down low all the time.

8 grams of protein? 19g of sugar! I bet it tasted real good- but has way too much sugar and not enough protein. You are better off w/ the pure protein bars if you HAVE to have a bar. It is low glycemic and low carb!

i've found that often "energy" is code for "sugar" with bars and drinks.

Those things are good for when you are doing a high energy expendature activity(during the activity).
I eat them will I'm on a long mountain bike trek along with lots of water,I have not found one yet that tastes good.
Followed by a sport drink AND MORE WATER!!!
This is not suppose to be a meal replacement!!!
Like it has been previously pointed out, real food is much better.
Butt EH,if you can get all that potassium,sodium,carbs...in one small bar already wrapped,it's easier then bringning bananas and getting them squiched, know what I mean?

I like the peanut butter ones. They taste like a Powerbar, but have the consistency of a Rice Krispies treat.

Butt compare to real food, they suck(tastewise)!!!

LOL-- Well for an energy bar(which I nvr tasted) Clif bars and Harvest bars are supposedly awesome....But I wouldn't know

Posted by: Dero

The Cliffbar is not bad butt I find dat the Harvest bar is more commercialised(tastes good and does not offer da right stuff)
More for your weekend warriors, makes them think they are doing it right!

If you know what I mean...

they have high carbs/sugar and low protein, there are better bars out there.

I get Carb Solutions at Walmart for like $8.50 for a box of 6. Keep them in the car for emergency's etc...

240 cals
fat 10g
sodium 210 mg
carbs 14 g (1 sugar)
protein 24 g

Don't they melt?

Posted by: LAM

they taste better melted, easier to chew !

Posted by: jonny69

i thought the high carbs before a workout were good.???

Posted by: Showdown

Melting isn't an option here in Phoenix!!! It'll turn into a liquid drink before you can say 'boo'.

Home-made protein shakes are an inconvenience in time, but a plus in nutrients. If you plan ahead, you'll not only save money but feed your body better!

Sounds good man. What flavor did you have?

Honestly, its good to have it for pre workout as a source of energy. I would eat it but keep it minimal...maybe like once a day.
