I think it depends on the individual product/food. You'll have to read the nutritional label of the food your eating to find out what they consider a serving to be. Most will give a suggestion like 1/2 cup, or 4 oz, etc. As far as finding out how much 4 oz or 100 grams, etc is, you need to weigh your food. You can get cheap and effective food scales at just about any department store.

To keep things simple I usually refer back to the "Body for Life" method -
which is, a serving or portion is the size of your clinched fist. So I try to eat meat and carbs that are proportionally the size of my fist.
