a "spike" day

Hey, first post for me. I hit the big 300 in a bad way, i'm 19 so my mom put me on a diet and i run/walk 4 miles a day. The last time I went on a diet I used to take one day out of the week- usually saturday- and sneak some taco bell, or chick-fil-a, or some sort of treat. I ended up then losing more weight than anyone else in my family.

So, what I want to know, is if there's any reason for this? Does one day of cheating spike your metabolism in any way? Just looking for insight from real people.

Read the sticky on refeeds. That is only for lean persons though.

The only real advantage for you is probably mental.

re-feed?

cheat day?

At 300 fucking pounds you are better off just doing a program and sticking to it. At your level of deconditioning, you don't need to get all fancy with the diet.

Lower your calories and move your ass.

Hey bud, been there, done that... I can tell you, that at 300 lbs your body is just dying to drop weight, so you will see success in just about anything as long as you are eating less calories then your are burning. Hell you could do th ice cream and donut diet if you wanted, as long as you stick to something....

But seriously, educate yourself, and stick with it, nothing beats the feeling of dropping serious weight... You feel like you can do anything.

Everyone here will tell you to read the stickies and design a diet/routine, and they are right. Educate yourself on how the body works, and things will fall into place. All it takes is a little knowledge and alot of dedication, and once you start to see results, its all uphill from there.

Good luck, and welcome

Thanks. I was only asking because I know I'll hit a plateau and that's what helped me get past it last time. I had no idea what a re-feed was, so thanks for pointing me to that sticky.

welcome aboard!!

Eat often, eat good foods (stickies are great help), get moving at least 3-4 times per week and ull see changes.

Im concerned with the fact that uve dieted before, yet have managed to inflate back up to 300... You need to make this a lifestyle change, a lifelong change, not another "diet". Consider it. Having one meal per week (not day, meal) where You can indulge is one of the best ways that I found to keep me sain and focused in early stages of weight loss.

And btw, I know the drill... I lazied my ass all the way to 357 lbs before I got my head outta my ass and got healthy!

If you hit a plateau at 300 lbs., then you're not sticking to your diet. If you seriously count your calories and limit your intake, you'll drop fat no matter what. As p-funk said, "lower your calories and move your ass" - that's the only choice you got. With the simplest diet you can think of, I went from 264 lbs. (42% body fat) to 174 lbs. (21.7%). If I can do this at 40 years of age, then it should be a walk in the park for someone at your age.

well, the only reason i started dieting before was because i had just stopped drumline- the most physical activity i've ever been involved in. the only reason i got all the way up to 300 was, well cuz i got lazy and stupid. so this diet is just the beginning of a long road, i know that much.
