it seems alot of people come to the forum asking questions bout abs. any one who is worth there salt in training knows abs are made in the kitchen. though there are plenty of good exercises out there i want to post a few here. feel free to join in or call me a ass for starting this thread. i like to do the hanging knee raises, crunches on a ball, incline crunches, side bends. works great for me for a good core workout a couple times a week. thoughts comments please add on. i like to throw a plate in there every once in a while for added resistance to burn out my core two.

I only train abs before a comp, its almost as boring as cardio. I usually just do hanging leg raises, crunches and incline raises all for 100 reps each non stop. For individuals with lower back problems, strengthening the core muscles on a regular basis is a good idea.

holy crap, that sounds brutal...
I generally only train abs twice a week, just basic crunches & leg raises.

I like to do a circuit... Ill do 1 set of 20 with a 45 on my chest on the incline, then I do 1 set of 20 side bends for each oblique with a 45, then I do leg raises, then a 30 second front plank and then I rest. Rinse and repeat, and you got yourself an ab workout! lol I like to mix it up too... one day instead ill do circuits of all three variations of ab plans, axe chop and seated ball crunches. I just love supersetting all of them and watching the sweat pour of my face onto the mat when im doing planks... hmm... come to think of it, I wonder how the other gym members feel about that....

what are some variation exercises on the exercises mentioned? any one ever do any cable work for there abs? i dont personaly like cable or any ab machine. i just done feel like i am gettin any real work done. oh and to cover real quick the ab belts or what not. best way to say it attach a elctrode to a dead frog its muscle will still twitch.

best to keep it simple I think. Main focus should be on form and just do basic exercises from different angles. I dont believe in using weight on ab exercises unless someone is trying to stengthen them due to back problems, the more the abs grow the bigger the waist gets.

One or two movements after every workout session, 1-2 sets per movement.

Usually a stability movement (planks, birddogs, supermans, side planks...) and a traditional movement (reverse crunches, leg raises, clark kents, crunches...)

I honestly dont think they need any more than that. I have great core stability, and visibility is independant of how you train them anyway. People focus on this stuff way too much.
