I'm consuming 1.5 grams of lean protein (chicken, lean beef, tuna, egg whites, milk...etc.) per pound of bodyweight. Is it still necessary to take protein shakes?

no!

Supplements are just that. Supplemental.

Nope. The only (optional) thing I would consider is taking Whey protein right after a workout (since it digests so quickly and can put a lot of protein into your system rapidly)

The only reason you would need protein supplements is if A: you're not getting enough protein from food, or B: you're not eating foods that give you complete proteins (usually only a concern for vegetarians)

i used to bea whey-aholic. I was ordering 20 lbs a month. Thats just friggin silly. I now take in a scoop after a workout with my post workout meal and a scoop right before bed of casein.
What really helps me is BCAAs. I take 10g before a workout and 10 right after with the whey, creatine and meal. I have noticed more gains doing this alone then when I was using tons of supplemental protein. Whole food is really much better, for me at least.

My name is Chris....I am a whey-aholic...

Cause many people don't get the concept of Supplement. They think it is necessary.
