Effects of Caffine/Stimulants on Connective Tissue

Does anyone ever remember running across info on stimulants
effecting connective tissue?

Most of you know I tore my biceps tendon a few weeks back,
so I was benching this weekend and now have a slight pain
in my opposite shoulder (rotator).

I have been living on those 5hour energy things for a couple months now...

I dried off of them, and then started back on again.

I have been doing a lot of running out in the sun
and am slightly leaner than usual.

I'm thinking this has something to do with dehydration.

Besides drinking myself silly on distilled water...
anyone have any ideas???

Do I ask too difficult a question?

How much water are you drinking?

What are those 'energy things'?

I doubt the stimulants are the cause of your shoulder or biceps problem. Torn biceps are mainly caused by lack of warm-up and stretch overload (like in a mixed grip deadlift). Rotator cuff problems are often caused by a poorly structured program (and therefore posture).

Tore the bicep at the end of a Muay Thai WO, not beginning and no weights involved.

the shoulder was also warmed up and weight was low, 12rep range.

Caffine, mostly from the energy's:

Well, I'm pretty anti-stimulants so I'd say using them is bad (generally speaking), especially without moderation. I don't see any ingredient that would cause soft tissue weakening, but that's not my expertise. The only thing I could think of - and this is far fetched - is that you are/were addicted to the stimulants. Addictions can cause all sorts of nasty problems.

Still, I doubt there is any significant relation between the stimulants and your injuries.

On a serious note:

I don't know. I am a stimulatent user and I also have connective tissure problems, but I honestly don't think they are related. I have searched in the past, but found no studies that sugest there is any corrolation to stulants and connective tissure problems.

My guess, is that you train hard, and you happened to cross your body's threshold for how much punishment it can take for that specific body part. Every time I get close to 400lbs on either bench, squats, or dead lifts, I injure the same areas over and over.

Sorry. I got no advice.

couldn't find anything on pubmed.com and i don't recall any study looking at caffeine and connective tissue injuries.

The shoulder pain could be some compensation from having tore the biceps. You are probably just altering movement patterns without thinking about it to keep stress off of the tissue (the body seeks the path of least resistance).

What did the Dr. say about the torn biceps?

I noticed you talking about dehydration and beverages. I work for a marketing company promoting the new Snapple Antioxidant waters. Not only are they tasty but they also are loaded with antioxidants-- big help when I'm running long distances.

Caffeine is helpful for fat loss - helps mobilize FFAs, gives you more energy for your lifts.

Never heard anything about connective tissue and stimulants - but I do know that stims can enhance insulin resistance, which actually helps spare muscle while cutting. I would think this would be a plus for something like connective tissue, but I'm really reaching here.

???

I just don't see a correlation between his torn biceps and his caffeine intake. I wont even try and reach.

I don't see how that answers his question or even helps this thread?

If dehydration is a problem and caffine is an issue than these waters could be a good alternative. Also, Antioxidants are proven to help protect your body from tissue damage-- Im not saying that this product will heal an injury, just offering an alternative to distilled water
