I run a MMA club and I don't worry about whether my business practices are "fair" to my competitors. If I give people on forums info, it's general in nature and if they want more detailed and specific help, they PAY to come and train with me. Many times I will intentionally "steal" students away from my competitors by encouraging my students to visit other clubs. When the other people see my students they often ask where we train, and sure enough, we will get a couple new guys. It's business, and there is no fair/unfair in business. McDonalds doesn't worry if Burger King's feelings will be hurt before they unveil some new promotional idea.
I'm also a IERT member at the prison I work at and my employers don't expect me to quell disturbances, protect staff, etc for free. I'm paid for my expertise.
I see no difference here. Ironmag, w8lifter and DP thought of a new idea to interact with thier clients and they should be commended for thier insight.
