so uh, no thread about the playoffs, no one watches? i didnt either at first, but espn turns anyone into a fan.

but, as a mavs fan, im depressed, we are going to lose to a team with hardly no playoff experience

Yes.

I rather the Celtics and not Kobe.

Posted by: natural^

yeah, im not a kobe fan either espcecially since in the summer he wanted to be traded and then when the lakers got that good trade and they started to win he stayed, but he has had a hell of a season regardless. i say celts in 7.(this is IF its celts vs. lakers)

Posted by: HialeahChico305

I dont think the mavs got what it takes..........the team hasn't gotten used to play with Kidd. harris was a better fit IMO.

true, im still undecided whether i support the kidd trade or not, i think the mavs got caught up in the trade fever with teams like the suns and lakers making trades. nonetheless, i dont think we will beat NO after what i saw tonight, though its one game. mavs still got more experience than NO, but i dont know if it will be enough.

The Celtics' journey starts tonight. What a weekend with last nights Bruins game, tonights Celtics game, and then the Patriots Day Red Sox matinee tomorrow afternoon/morning.

I pounded hard on the Bruins last night and am using some of my winnings on Philly +10 tonight against the Pistons. Philly ended the season on a sour note which is why the line is so high, but this 76ers team is revived and really played tough with Detroit all year.

All good series thus far...

Kobe is a punk. When his team is doing well, he is cocky and talks a lot of shit. When his team is in a funk, he complains and demands a trade or tells the front office what to do. I absolutely despise him and cannot wait for them to get knocked out.

Better hope for next round because I doubt the Denver will grant your wishes.

true he has had a phenomenal season like him or hate him.

in other news, gasol was a beast today.

and i bet suns and spurs go to game 7 and spurs pull it out, helluva 1st game they had.

It pissed my off when they pulled out Smith and Kleiza after they made up the deficit and got a 7 point lead. Then they put back in Carmelo and he blows it. Lakers do have pretty amazing ball movement.

Posted by: soxmuscle

Yup, I called it.

Thank you, 76ers.

Posted by: natural^

good for the 76ers, i'd like there to be at least one upset in the first round in the eastern div, cause i sure as hell know the celts will roll atlanta.

Carmelo got 30 something points but he was crap at the defensive end....Im with you with the Smith and Kleiza comment, they shouln't have been pulled out so early, smith was like the energizer bunny off the bench, while kleiza was making those 3 rain. George Karl is an idiot.

Posted by: soxmuscle

How about Laker fans chanting "DUI" at Carmelo...

Celtics dominate.

Thats what the NBA wants.

I want to see Cleveland sweep Washington, just to shut Washington the hell up.

Posted by: soxmuscle

I want to see Cleveland sweep Washington, because the Wizards the superior team and I'd much rather play Cleveland in round 2 than Washington.

Washington has given the Celts fits all year...

It doesn't look like Toronto has enough this year to compete with Orlando.

The future is bright though...

Posted by: soxmuscle

Toronto Star:
Raptors' big man Chris Bosh swung back at Stephen A. Smith after Smith compared Bosh to former NBAer Manute Bol on Friday, the Toronto Star is reporting.

Smith criticized Bosh for playing soft and being unable to lead his team to any significant level of success, but it was not this which irked the All-Star, it was bringing Bol's name into the criticism.

"If you have respect for someone, you expect that same respect back," Bosh said yesterday. "If you're a classless person like that, I mean, I guess that shows how you are, what kind of person you really are."

"If you criticize basketball, criticize the game, criticize the team but don't do anything personal."

So who exactly likes Steven A. Smith?
YouTube Video

The 2007 version is equally as funny.

Posted by: natural^

not a fan of bosh or smith.

Posted by: IainDaniel

Why not? Bosh is a class act.

Smith on the other hand is a douchebag.

Posted by: natural^

idk, after the whole commercial to promote himself to to play in the allstars, idk some people got a kick, some people thought it was smart, i just think that if you're having to make a commercial to be in the allstars then you probably aren't ready, you dont see kobe and lebron doing a car commercial to vote for him. on the other hand, that was only one event, so i take back what i say, i guess. smith really is a douche though. only guy i like doing nba is michael wilbon, and thats not really alot of love.

Posted by: natural^

cavs rolled the the wizards tonight. maybe game 3 arenas will shut the hell up and play, but i highly doubt it, looks like the cavs got this series.

Posted by: soxmuscle

Not so fast, IMO.

The Wiz are a solid team despite how they've played thus far in this series.

I wouldn't put it past them to win both games in Washington.

Posted by: soxmuscle

Houston's done, no surprise there.

hmm, it could happen, but the cavs got all the momentum and less pressure than arenas and the wizards to back up their shit talk. i still have cavs pulling 4-1.

That was fun seeing Washington get absolutely steamrolled last night. Hopefully they'll get beat even worse the next two games.

And how about Stevenson blowing on his hand after hitting a three....WHILE HIS TEAM IS GETTING BLOWN OUT.

Posted by: shiznit2169

I am absolutely shocked with the Atlanta Hawks right now. I thought for sure that the Celtics would blow them out in four straight games. I don't think anyone outside of Atlanta predicted the series would last more than 5 games. I am a little worried now because Atlanta's athleticism is surely wiping the floor with the veteran players on the Celtics.

Whoever wins game five will win the series. The Celtics need to step up their defense. This series reminds me of the Warriors-Mavs series last year. Unbelievable.

Don't even talk to me about Dwight Howard. He just destroyed the Raptors by himself. He is a god.

Posted by: Triple Threat

You need to get Chris Bosh on some kind of strength training program. He's got the talent, but seems to get pushed around much too often. I don't know how many times I saw him on the floor.

Posted by: soxmuscle

Josh Smith beat the Celts by himself in game three, Joe Johnson does the same in game four.

How about that stupid fucking Euro getting into Garnett's face? Hardly a turning point that TNT made it out to be, but if Garnett is going to lose his cool because of some piece of shit flopper, the Celtics aren't going deep into these playoffs.

He's not so stupid. If he gets Garnett to retaliate, the two of them get tossed. Advantage: Atlanta.

I completely agree, it was stupid for the Celts to stoop down to the lowly Hawks level.

I more so just hate the European brand of basketball.

When does the NBA follow the NHL's lead by adopting a flop rule?

Somebody needs to get him some food. He is way too slim to be a post player. But then again, his frame is similar to KG who did fine with it his entire career.

Their frame might be similar, but you can't teach toughness IMO. Bosh got game, but his is a pure softie with no post up game. He takes to many fadeaways for a team thats lacking inside scoring.

I remember reading an article about how "hard" it was for Chris Bosh to put on weight, I wish I could find it...

Posted by: Triple Threat

The biggest surprise of the first round has got to be the Boston-Atlanta series. The Celtics look like a competely different team when on the road. Luckily for them, they've got home-court advantage throughout.

Posted by: soxmuscle

Another concerning thing is how Garnett and Pierce have both lost their composure numerous times throughout this series (I thought they were smarter) and how Ray hasn't made a shot down the stretch.

I hope tomorrow isn't interesting...

Posted by: shiznit2169

For the first time this season, i am worried about the Celtics.

Posted by: Goodfella9783

I think you have to blame a lot if it on Doc. Seriously, where the fuck is Eddie House? How about Tony Allen? They succeeded using Eddie as the number 2 PG the whole season and now all of the sudden he's MIA unless there 1.2 seconds in a quarter. Sam Cassell does not match up well with the speedy ATL guards. His age is definately showing on defense. Eddie better play a lot more today. He's a huge spark off the bench. And we better see Tony Allen guarding Joe Johnson off-and-on

Posted by: shiznit2169

Ya, i have noticed that throughout this series. Doc is playing the starters a little too much (which is why they burnout in the 4th quarter) and i have yet to see Eddie House and Tony Allen get a lot of playing time. This shows that Doc has no confidence in them.

Posted by: Triple Threat

They were good enough to help the Celtics to 66 wins. You've got to go with what got you there in the first place.

Posted by: HialeahChico305

Hope celtics get knocked off.

Posted by: natural^

did anyone see stephen a. smith go on a huge rant on espn about how the celtics are a disgrace and bla bla. the guy on the left had to continuously put his hand on smith's shoulder and tell him to calm down and let it go. funny shit, speaking of shit, smith can go to hell.

Zaza Puchilia sucks, just like Doublebase.

Posted by: natural^

tied at 68 celts and cavs with 1:50 left..gawd celts are not doing good at all, neither is lerbron.

Posted by: shiznit2169

I'll take the win but that was one of the WORST basketball games i have ever seen. Both teams were horrendous on offense and turned the ball over a lot. Kevin Garnett, Rondo and Big Z were the only guys who kept the game going. I have never screamed at the Celtics as much as i have tonight because of their god awful performance.

Posted by: david

Aside from all of that... I think it's funny that San Antonio is getting wiped! As for the Western conference, sadly, I'd like to see the Lakers wipe New Orleans.

The East? Well, I think if the Celtics lose a home game from this point out, they could be finished! It's obvious that they can't seem to win on the road. WTF? Don't get me wrong, I've always been a Celtics fan but unfortunately, as a betting man, if they did lose one home game.... I'd go for the other team.

why? i want it to be a N.O.-Celts finals, with celts finishing them off. I think its good for Chris Paul if he makes the finals, but not win it, still a young guy.

and yeah Shiznit, that was a horrible game, very low scoring, lebron only made one FG in the first HALF. turnovers were ridiculous, but KG did well in the very end.

Posted by: Bradicallyman

I want to see the lakers vs. celtics in the finals or Lakers vs. Cavs. A lakers cavs series would kind of remind me of the lakers bulls (Magic vs Jordan) or bulls blazers (jordan vs. Drexler) series in the 90's. Two star powers going at it to see who is the best. I think the lakers will win it all this year, especially with the Spurs looking to make an early exit. There are just too good as a team and Kobe is having his best year ever, maybe not statistically but as a leader.

Defensive battles are never fun to watch.

Even so, the Celts were able to shut down Lebron, something really I have never seen been done before.

Pierce and Ray played two of the worst games of their respective careers, that won't happen again.

I'd like to see game 3 (road game) before I make a prediction, but if they keep up their stellar defense and Pierce and Ray start playing like the all-stars they are, I can't see the Celtics not coasting in this series.

While I agree with you about Kobe, it was the trade for Gasol that has made a difference. Gasol is now the Shaq who Kobe needed before to win it all.

Posted by: soxmuscle

I was truly let down last night

It's like night and day when they play at home and on the road. No defense, no offense... just a shit basketball team.

Hopefully they can right the ship on Monday; you can beat the Atlanta's and Cleveland's of the world being unable to win on the road with home court advantage, but that won't be the case with Detroit and eventually the Lakers/New Orleans/San Anton, etc.

I agree that the Gasol trade did make a huge difference and that they would not be the top seed in the west if it weren't for that trade, but before the trade the lakers were still number 1 with a healthy bynum. Yes Kobe needs either Bynum or Gasol to win it all, just like Jordan needed Pippen.

The Celtics total inability to win a road game is amazing.

1. It's easy to place blame on a coach, but this is completely justified. The Celtics have lost all 5 road games they've played in the playoffs and in all 5 games, Doc has been out coached entirely. For as easy as it is to blame a coach, it's even easier to credit him; when his players were executing in the regular season it was all fine and dandy, in these playoffs his true colors that I became all to familiar with the last couple of years are coming back out.

2. In my eyes, Kevin Garnett has always been like an A-Rod or a Peyton Manning in the sense that for as talented as they are, they're a phony come the playoffs. So far he's done nothing to change my mind and while he hasn't been the reason the Celtics have lost all their road games, Kevin Garnett has to be better than just "not the reason they lost" if the Celtics are to go any place. He's gotten flustered, he tenses up, he doesn't trust himself, he passes up shots.. Color me completely unimpressed by his performance thus far in these playoffs.

3. If Ray Allen isn't shooting well, he serves no purpose being on the court. He's no longer the young, explosive Ray Allen that could not only create his own shot but could get to the basket as well. Don't get me wrong, he's a hell of a ball player and 11 games isn't going to change my opinion of his game, it's just the flat out truth; if he isn't shooting well, sit him. Better yet, Doc, why not try him off the bench with the second unit?

4. Paul Pierce has been my favorite player for as long as I can remember, but that doesn't mean his game doesn't have flaws and they're mostly mental IMO. He'll get to the basket, make an incredible shot and then come down on the next possession and brick a three pointer. He gets anxious, tries to do to much, and as a result becomes a stupid basketball player in the process. He needs to calm down, especially on the road, and just play how he's always played.

5. I think you almost have to mix things up. Eddie House has been stuck on the bench and he was an extremely effective player in his role in the regular season. Same goes for a few other bench players that have been stuck on the pine all playoffs.

It's crazy to think about, but tonight's a must win game. Who'd have thunk it? I certainly didn't...

I'd say Doc is 80% of the problem. If you've been watching all of the games, you will notice that his management of the bench is NOT even close to what he has been doing all season. The thing that pisses me off the most is the fact that he has PJ Brown, Sam Cassell, Ray Allen, James Posey and Leon Powe as the starting 5 for the START OF THE 4th QUARTER! You cannot, i repeat, cannot put 5 guys out there who haven't even experienced playing with each other all season. Seriously, where is Tony Allen? Eddie House? Big Baby? Doc is killing me.

I agree with you to a certain extent but he DID win game 1 for us. He got the clutch shots they needed with under 2 minutes left in the game.

Here is a comical (but 100% true) article recently written by Bill Simmons. I love this guy and he is always funny and dead-on about a lot of things when it comes to Boston sports.

ESPN Page 2 - Simmons: Ubuntu's ugly side

Posted by: I Are Baboon

With the Washington series, you knew Boston would find a way to pull that one out. There was never really too much of a doubt. Cleveland though is a different story. Lebron is playing like ass and the series is still tied. If he finds his game, the Celtics are in real trouble...not that they're not in trouble already.

I'm still pulling for the Celtics though.

Posted by: soxmuscle

Reporter: What was the game plan tonight?
KG: The game plan tonight was to give the ball to Paul and get the hell out of the way.

I guess in the end, no matter how disgraceful the officiating was in this series, David Stern got exactly what he wanted. 6 great games, an even better game 7, and the Celtics moving on.

Posted by: Goodfella9783

Time to think about Tony Allen getting more time then Ray Allen. We can't rely on Ray's D (on Wally nonetheless) and he couldn't hit open shots. No point in him being in there for 35+ minutes. Tony can man up on Rip Hamilton and make plays off the dribble at SG.

Spurs or Lakers in the West?

Posted by: natural^

Lakers vs. Undecided for the finals.

i honestly cant make a prediction on the east side, what do you think sox?

Posted by: soxmuscle

There are to many factors involved to talk about tonights game, no less the series.

Will the rest help the Pistons or will it hurt? Many times teams fall out of rhythm, cue the 2007 Colorado Rockies who had to wait nearly two weeks before being destroyed by the Red Sox.

Will the Celtics find their stride on the road or will they be forced to win four games at home?

How will Doc rotate his guys? If there's anything I've learned its that one game in these playoffs means nothing.. it took Cassell shitting the bed on numerous occasions before he called upon Eddie House.

Will Ray Allen be useless or will he be the Ray we saw in the regular season?

Too many factors but one things sure, it's going to be a hell of a series. Depending on the odds, I might throw money on the series going seven.

Detroit has the tendency to look lackadaisical at times. For instance, they lost game one against a clearly inferior Philadelphia team. Hopefully game 2 will go the same way.. I'm psyched.

I don't hate the Lakers, I just hate Kobe.

Kind of rooting for the Spurs, mainly because I like them more. The best match-up would clearly be the Celtics and Lakers..

Celtic fans must have been taking a shit . Man I was hoping the Lakers pulled it off, just to see the fans get dissapointed.

that was ridiculous 20+ pt lead, down to 2 pt lead, they totally let it get to their heads. thank god they still won though, i am rather surprised the celts got up on the lakers by that much, i thought it would be a little closer than that (minus the last 6 minutes).

the real test will be playing in LA.

It will depend on which team goes to LA. Will it be the stumbling bumbling fools who went to Atlanta or the bad-asses who travelled to Detroit?

True. but not just for the celtics, also which LA team will be there also, the team that has had horrible defensive troubles or the one that crushed the spurs?

Also a little sidenote, Leon Powe had 21pts, awesome

Posted by: Triple Threat

I don't think Gasol can keep up with Garnett's intensity. Gasol seems to do OK in the first half, but he seems gassed by halftime and is a non-factor in the second half.

Powe had a great game, but I'm getting tired of hearing about his childhood and how he kept all the siblings together. The first time was interesting, but it's getting old now.

I expect Odom to up his game once they get back to LA.

I expect the Celtics to steal one in LA .. either game 4 or 5. Then they'll finish it off in game 6 and KG, Allen and Pierce will get their first championship.

Where the hell did this guy come from? I havent been following celtic games that much this season or in the playoffs, but dude's intensity off the bench was a killer for the lakers. Did you see how in the 3rd quarter he ran from court to court off and inbound and did a doctor J kinda dunk? The game of his life I bet.

Game 6 tonight!! Why do I have the feeling it is going to go 7. The closeout game is always the hardest. Especially when your that close to winning a championship. Those guys have to be jittery inside. KG showed some it missing those crucial free throws in the 4th quarter of game 5. We'll see what happens tonight.

Posted by: HialeahChico305

Man The lakers barely won that game (GAME 5), and they were at home. I doubt they can pull one off at boston, They better take their A game. Kobe has dissapointed me so far, no way do I put kobe and Jordan together in the same sentence with the type of performances Kobe has showed. I expected more out of the leagues "MVP".

Posted by: IainDaniel

A little hard to say that considering who surrounded Jordan.

So far you've got this one nailed perfectly.

I was waiting for the Celts to win tonight to give him his props.

You better not have jinxed it

I have a feeling that Kobe will try to take over the game early, the other 4 mannequins, er, Lakers will stand around and watch. Kobe will be gassed by halftime and the Celts will smoke them in the third quarter.

I can still cancel the bet before the game starts, but I have my entire account at Celtics -5 right now.

Thoughts?

+1

I love this argument with all of my Chicago buddies.

I think you should ask Tim Donaghy.

Haha.. if only he were still allowed to officiate.

The more and more I read into it, the less and less I think the Celts cover here but I do this constantly and usually kick myself post game for going against my gut.

Perhaps 5 is too many points, it'd be hell rooting for the Celts to win but not by more than 5... Maybe moneyline is the way to go?

Sorry I can't help you, sox. I don't gamble on sports and if you've noticed my results in the football playoffs pool, you'd understand.

I can say that on Jordans era the nba wasnt as competative as it is now, but still I know Kobe had Shaq as his side kick on his championship years. Kobes numbers are up there with Jordan, But so far Kobe without shaq hasnt produced jelwery.

*sheds tear for something I've been waiting for my entire life*

Thank You Boston Celtics

Good stuff! Congrats, Celtics fans! I am real happy for the Big Three.

I hate to admit it, but the 9:00 start times are too late for me since I am up at 5:00 every morning and I hardly watched any of the series. I did DVR last night's game though and look forward to watching the Kobe ass kicking tonight.

Let me fix that.

Did you wind up taking the Celts to cover?

Posted by: soxmuscle

^ pussed out on the points, went with the ML and lost a little bit of dough in the process. Oh well, the Celts won, life is good

Posted by: IainDaniel

Artie Lange won 25K on the game last night

Don't be a pussy. I get up at 5am everyday for work and i have stayed up for every game. Yes, that means going to bed at 12am.

So I heard...

The thing with Artie is, he never really talks about it when he loses.

He nailed the Super Bowl putting his bookie in debt, nailed this..

He knows sports more than Howard and Robin but so does my 9 year old sister.

Posted by: IainDaniel

Wait till those 30+ years hit. Just can't do that anymore.

New nickname = One-up Shiz?

I'm joking - I've got both of you beat and let me tell you, it's nothing to be proud of.

You = 22
Me = 35

It makes a difference. I need at least 7 hours sleep to function properly. These two recent Red Sox title runs KILLED me.

my dad is the same way and he's in his 50's. I am saddened that i have no one to watch the redsox or celtics games during late nights since my dad started hitting the hay early.

(Yes, it's nice watching games with friends but it is not as enjoyable than it is with my dad. We talk non-stop and think the exact same things when certain circumstances happen. If you've read about Bill Simmons and his father, i'd say we're about the same as they are).

Posted by: soxmuscle

My Dad will stay up and watch the games with me, but he'll fall asleep all day at random times.. seriously, he'll get his 3-6 hours a night and then bump it up to 6-9 with random 30 minute cat naps..
