Anyone ever had a cortisone shot?

I had one last week and it made things worse.

I went to the doctor to take a look at my clavicle that I had broken a few years ago because lately it's been bothering me.
Well the Doc tells me it never healed correctly and now between the collar bone and shoulder I have some sort of calcium growth that could be arthritic.

The details may be sketchy due to the fact the Doctor was in a hurry to $ee other patients... this pisses me off.
He left me with so many unanswered questions.

Anyway he gave me a shot of cortisone and the sucker burned like crazy and left me a little swollen.
The next day it felt as good as new! I was able to do certain things I couldn't do before but I paid for it the next day...oh the pain.
I couldn't even raise my arm.

I tore my tendons and ligaments from that fall but I didn't find out till about a year later due to the lack of medical insurance.

This never stopped me from lifting, in fact I started lifting again 2 months after that, Lee brought me a membership as a present so that we can train together and I didn't want to disapoint her.

This is what my shoulder looks like now.

Apparently, you only have one rotator Cuff, half of your ribs are missing, one of your scapula[s] is on the wrong side of your body, a wedge-like area of bone has been erased from your spinal column...most probably due to the UFO landing, and you have no internal organs.

Other than that, I'd sayyou'll be okay.

I had a local injection in my shoulder a few weeks ago. Hurt like a bitch when I got it, this was right into my shoulder joint though. After that it was great, till the local wore off.

Right now scheduled for exploratory surgery in the fall.

This has been a long term injury 10 years plus. Where I ended up altering my activities to accomodate the pain. ie giving up baseball or any overhead activity.

Think it Stemmed from a F.O.O.S.H while playing hockey. Plus being a pitcher in competitive baseball.

If the labrum needs to be repaired basically 6 months of recovery post surgery.

I don't follow hockey, so I have to ask what a F.O.O.S.H. is.

Will you be, or near, 100% after recovery?

Falling on outstretched hand. Basically a seperation occured, in which I never received proper therapy nor did I properly recover from.

Dunno. Chance you take. Shoulders aren't a good joint to have surgery on, very complex.

That's the part where he was rushing me out the door.

He sent me to see a therapist for some rehab before he gives me the final verdict. I really don't want to lose time at work or at the gym but if I have to I must.

One of the (many) things that I'm learning in Krav Maga is how to take a fall. As of right now, I'm taking that more seriously.

If I can purchase that house by the time you have your surgery, I'll pay for your ticket. I'm optimistic about my option trading, but I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you.

I have screwed my right elbow up the past week or two. I don't have full ROM in it and it's sore as hell. I'm thinking it is just tendonitis like I had in my left elbow about 6 yrs ago, but the right one pops and that bothers me. I have to make an appt. this week.

No, on a serious note, I believe Steve, aka Twinpeak gave a reasonable description of his situation with rotator cuff injury, surgery and recovery....either here in a journal, or maybe at Avant. With the right rehab and common sense, I think recovery is much easier than it used to be.

I've had problems with my right shoulder for quite a while....everything from pain, to numbness and loss of sensation in my right hand. But, like you MinO, I'm reluctant to get my Doc to examine it.
Doctors these days don't just address the chief complaint, they have to go fishing for everything else they can find.

Definitely don't go to your GP for a diagnosis. Also, get at least two opinions. And, if you can swing it, get a sports-related doctor.

I had pain in my left should a year ago. I skipped my GP and went right to a specialist. The first moron misdiagnosed it as some form of tendinitis. And, not knowing any better, I took a month off to let is supposedly heal. The first time I worked out, the pain was there.

So I went to a different doctor, who actually took x-rays and such, and had it correctly diagnosed as a form of structural arthritis.

Doctors, lawyers, mechanics, and thieves.

Same boat as Iain. Had my shot 4 weeks ago Wednesday. Interestingly enough it does hurt more now than it did 4 weeks ago. Coincidense...?

FWIW, when I had a shot in my left elbow about 6 yrs ago, it was sore the next day and then it cleared the immflamation and it's been good since. I don't think continued pain is normal. I would go back and let them know.
