severe gas after workout

I will say that during the past year my intestines have not functioned correctly, for unknown reasons which I'm still trying to diagnose with a doctor.

I seem to have a problem with severe gas 2 hours later after I workout. As soon as I finish a workout, I have a protein shake like I've always had in the past, without problems. However, two hours later I now seem to have severe gas and it lasts for a good 2-3 hours. I don't know why it happens, I just want it to go away and eliminate it. Does anyone else have this problem?

This only happens after I workout, no matter what time of day or what I eat PWO, it just seems to be really bad and quite annoying if you know what I mean. :P

Try activated charcoal. At the very least, if it doesn't eliminate or decrease the gas it will help with the odor.

How is your diet in terms of carbs/fiber? Do you eat a lot of cruciferous veggies, beans and other gas forming foods? What kind of protein do you drink? Its been known to happen that indigestion/malabsorption can sometimes spontaneously occur in people (IE a person can drink milk their whole lives' and when they're 30 can become lactose intolerant). How often do you move your bowels? Do you have to strain to get it out? Are they formed or liquidy? What about color? Pain in the abdomen? If so where?

What has the doc been doing to try and diagnose?

I was told ginger ale helps, tried it a couple of times and somehow it worked.

Oh yeah i actually forgot about that. Ginger will aid with digestion. As well you can buy digestive enzymes in pill form. Take half an hour before eating, it might help.

Ok, from a medical standpoint, and your doctor may have recommended testing for this, have you checked if you're lactose intolerant (taking the PWO shake with a big glass of milk)? Even if you don't THINK you're lactose intolerant, you could be, and that indigested lactose in your large intestine could potentially interact with many of the bacteria strains living there, producing bloating, and large amounts of gas.

enzymes and ginger will help..if you've recently changed your diet or you've not had a CONSISTANT type of diet you'll be tore up from the floor up for sure.

I'd recommend enzymes before anything else.. activated charcoal is great for a quick fix. From my experience with it though in teh hospital it's not fun to take. Charcoal suspension is what' you'd be drinking and it'll come out your ass end or BOTH ends within minutes of taking it. Be looking like you struck oil in your drawers.. it clears the system QUICK!

however if you're one of hte few people that can take small amounts and it not do what i just mentioned.. be wary. Activated charcoal will grab up anything and everything in your system wether it be medications, other toxins, etc. in your body.. BUT.. it's a double edge sword. Once charcoal becomes loaded up or it's SHORT activation life expires.. it releases everything it grabbed up BACK into the system making it in short.. ineffective.


but it's still an option if nothing else works..
