I have been buying Myoplex ready made shakes to take after training. I know the're expensive so have been advised to drink a pint of milk instead, as its the same protein value. 20g.
The type of work I do doesn't allow me to keep a pre-made shake with whey, as I train on my way home. The gym is 30 mins from work and 45 mins from home.
Is milk a sensible and cheap alternative?

milk is digested way to slowly even skim at around 90 minutes. whey and some carbs would be much better or the best would be somthing like this RecoverX by Muscle-Link

This doesn't make sense to me.....whey can be put in a bottle and mixed w/ water right after the gym and you can't do that, but you can drink milk, which needs to be refrigerated?

I agree...you can buy powders and a shaker cup and drink it right after your workout w/ water...there are some cheap whey powders out there that won't cost any more than milk. I wouldn't recommend milk for the reasons above and also it can be harsh on your GI tract right after training.

Yes digestive system will no be looking to good after that much milk. Go with the shakes, they are more convient and costs just as muchas milk (actually cheaper).

Whey is the best post workout shake you could get. Its fast digestion makes it ideal. U can mix it whey and it will stay good for at least 4 to 5 hours. Milk is a viable solution of whey is not availabe. Milk does contain whey and casein protein. It also contains the disacharide lactose, a double sugar. That helps to replenish glycogen stores. Bodybuilding is an old sport, with whey only coming along in the last 10 years or so. Many of the greats such as arnie zane and ferringo got big without whey as a post workout shake. SO to recap whey is best post workout, but if not available milk will do

Mix the whey with milk and then you have a fast acting protein and a medium one.
Not to stray off topic here, but the bed I made for my daughter was painted with an old-fashioned paint made with casein.
I agree with w8, buy a shaker, measure your powder in the morning and add water to it before you leave the gym. I used to do that all the time.

Cheers for the replies, guys.
W8, I should have given more detail bout my current daily routine.
Leave for work 7:15 am.
Arrive at work 8:30 am.
On training days I leave work 5:00 pm.
Arrive at gym ~5:30 pm.
Start training (1 hour) 5:45 pm.
Leave gym 7:00 pm.
Arrive home 7:45 pm.
I have access to a small refridgerator where I chill my drinking water and pre-made shake. At my current gym there are no water coolers. Also I have yet to find a good tasting whey that mixes well (with water) without a blender. I can only just stomach them well mixed in a blender with milk/ice cream/yoghurt etc.
I would only be able to make my own shakes before leaving for work and as I would have to store it for nearly 12 hours it would taste even worse!
The reason for my thread was to find out if milk is an alternative to whey post training, and from all the replies the opinion is whey is best but milk can be used if you have no whey.

Don't be such a wuz, just hold your breath and drink it!

Guess i've always had this yearning to stick to natural, as I was a bottle-fed (deprived) baby!!!
