Help!! Why are my quads locking up while running inclines?

So, I hate running. As a way to make it a little more fun, I have been running steep inclines at a fairly high speed. My parameters are 10 degrees @ 5mph.

I have been doing great. I have steadily been making improvement at the cost of my squats sucking ass. I think I might do a leg day with squats thrown otu just for a change of pace.

Now the problem is today at about half the distance I ran yesterday, both quads locked up into a painful cramp. It stopped me in my tracks, and I couldn't even walk for about 5 minutes. I don't think it was a deficiency, because my workout was fabulous. I had eaten oats and a can of tuna preworkout. I had drank tons of water today.

I think it might have been over training or something, but even then, I don't really believe that totally. I don't know.

Somebody offer some input on this please.

try running on normal plane for 10 mins before the incline workout.... had this problem before from running up hills....it always happen on the 1st hill...it is something about a main artery in your legs that has problem getting enough blood...but not sure....i just tried taking a break from jogging for a week or two, then did it again with a warmup and the problem never came back.. hopefully someone else on this board can enlighten us both a little bit more on this subject. A banana might also help with cramps but I'm not sure about this one because it has nothing to do about potassium.....

Sounds like not enough recovery time to me.

how often have you been doing these hill runs?
and where do they fit into your schedual in comparison to your leg days?
what kind of warm up do you do?

I had been doing hill runs every other day. I have done them on consecutive days once in while, but mostly I would space them out onffnff.

They don't fit into my current leg day training program. They are killing my squatting power. Right now, I am bench pressing the same as I am squatting. Not good at all.

I haven't been doing any warm-ups for running. I just jumped on the treadmill after my pushing movement day.

Lol, I know weight training and diet. I don't know shit about running. I guess I better start getting with the program.

I guess my new structure will look like this:

Monday: Push + Running
Tuesday: Pull
Wednesday: Running
Thursday: Leg
Friday: Running
Sunday: Off
Saturday: Push
Monday: Pull + Running
Tuesday: Pull
Wednesday: Off
Thursday: Legs
Friday: Running
Saturday: Push
Sunday: Pull + Running

That looks better. I will also stop running hills, and do a level surface at a higher speed.

If you are going to run inclines, i would limit it to three times a week. And if you are running that much, your squat will go down most definitely. I would suggest more high rep, lower weight explosive sets in sqauts, or hacks.. But any hardcore aerobic schedule with that much running will kill your sqaut weight wise. Try sprinting on flat ground as well.. Do 440s at a sprint, then do one at a jog, then sprint one again.. etc etc.. And most importantly, sometimes less is more

i definitely wouldnt squat for shit the day after a decent run

nor would i run for shit the day after a hard leg workout....

but i guess it all depends on your preference

id say the biggest advice would be a warmup of some kind

I'd definitely say youre overtraining. And squats? Woa! Your lower back can be susceptible to a quick pull or worse as well. You know your lower back muslces alternate pumping like pistons with each stride. And I'm sure we need not remind you of the mineral support for cramps.
