confused about certain movements

I am currently designing a new routine and wanted to add in the DB snatch and also start doing hang cleans again. I've always done hang cleans in a fullbody routine, but I am thinking about going back to the upper (horizontal-vertical)/lower (horizontal-vertical) split and was wondering what movement plane each would fall under?

I'm not a fan of hangs. Just one of those exercises that I would do only if a coach was telling me to. I feel like you can get the same benefits from doing other "safer" stuff. The same for snatches for me. I'm not gonna risk injury doing exercises that I feel like I'm doing just because I'm young or want to look studly in the gym. Hell I get looked at like a freak cause i do atg squats! If I started back hanging they'd try to kick me out! I did get good trap development when hanging but now I do heavy raises to keep them responding. heavy for me is like 425.

I wouldnt do either unless I was competing for something. These are my opinions. I'm sure many pro's or semi pros still do the stuff.
As far as where to group them. I would say both. Obviously its a pull but we did them in college to increase leg power and better 40 times.

I respectfully disagree - hang cleans are a staple of my workout, and one of my favourite lifts. I do them before shoulder work, on vertical push pull day.

To the OP: here's the form vid I learned them from: http://www.uwlax.edu/strengthcenter/...ve%20knee).mpg

WHAT.... you disagree??what

I dont like em and I dont like this guys back. looks more like he's just bending over, like so many do, instead of loading up with a good base/tight core. Maybe I'm being a stickler tonight. it is pass my bed time.

LOL - well, here's another - this one's a full clean, but you'll see the movement nonetheless: NSCA Video Library Presented by Dartfish

My delts blew up when I started doing hang cleans and push presses. Love 'em love 'em love 'em.

Merkaba - I see what you're saying, but from doing them before for a few months, I've had no problems with them seeing as though I would never go any higher than 80lbs until I felt 100% confident that my form was perfect.

Built - thanks for those links, they are very informative for not only cleans but a lot of other exercises too.

Yea, I'm not saying its a bad exercise. Just alot going on. Like doing clean and jerk. Leaving a lot to go wrong. Hey knock em out. Just dont hurt yourself.

They total body movements if you do them correctly. However, the hang clean is does involve more upper body than a full clean, but still total body.
