What do you guys think? I'm trying to gain muscle and I'm just starting out. Here's what I'm planning on doing.

meal 1 - 3-4 egg white/oatmeal/yogurt pankcakes with fruit blended in as well
8 0z orange juice

meal 2 - shake with 2 scoops american whey protein (i usually put 2-3 big spoonfulls of reduced fat crunchy peanut butter and a whole banana mixed with lactose free/fat free milk....should i leave those out?)

meal 3 - package of tuna already drained. small salad.

meal 4 - another shake or bar

meal 5 - chicken or fish (tonight it's mahi mahi and white rice and broccoli..any good?)

last night i cheated and had a strawberry sunday, but since i'm not going for competition style bodybuilding, does it matter?

I realize i should switch up and eat chicked sometimes insead of tuna and vice versa..add fish...anythning else? thanks!

If you are only trying to gain muscle, and don't care how much fat you get... then eat as many strawberry sundays as you want. hehe

In all seriousness though, I think that meal is pretty reasonable depending on how hard it is for you to gain weight. If you have a hard time gaining weight, then you probably should add somemore carbs and protein....etc. Just count up the calories and check out the percentages of fat, carbs, and protein. Display them here and I'm sure someone can suggest something better for you. You might also want to list your stats (height, weight, age, etc.)

Meal 1, double the egg whites.

Meal 2 ok as is

Meal 3 Screw salads, go with brown rice or whole wheat pasta. Add another can of tuna.

Meal 4 ok if postworkout

Meal 5 too incomplete, add some type of low gi carb to it like Basmati rice or Stoneground pasta.

Cheating is fine every now and again.

Well i am a chick, but is it ok if i podt too?

Need more protein in here, try 6 egg whites plus 3 yolks with your 3/4 cup of oatmeal. If you want to eat the pancakes then dont have the juice, too much sugar. You need some fat in here, so take 3 yolks that you used for the pancakes and cookem up.

meal 2 - shake with 2 scoops american whey protein (i usually put 2-3 big spoonfulls of reduced fat crunchy peanut butter and a whole banana mixed with lactose free/fat free milk....should i leave those out?)

This meal looks good for a bulking plan, but make sure you eat natural peanut butter (the others are full of sugar). If you dont like the taste of natural PB then just add 1Tablespoon of flax or Udo's oil.

meal 3 - package of tuna already drained. small salad.

You need to have some full fat mayo (1 tablespoon) in your tuna, plus add 3/4 cup of brown rice. Save the salad for later on in the day

meal 4 - another shake or bar

Bars are crap stick to a shake. This shake is really good and really helped me pack on the muscles: 3 tablespoons of heavy cream plus 4 frozen strawberries (not in sugar) plus water and 2 scoops of protein. Try it out its really yummy, i add 1 tablespoon of splenda to it so it tastes like candy. Ummm!

meal 5 - chicken or fish (tonight it's mahi mahi and white rice and broccoli..any good?)

Meal looks ok but again you need to add a protein, carb and fat to every meal. Fats are essential for building muscles and everyone needs them. Sugar is your enemy here not fat. Eat about 2 cups of veggies, plus 3/4 cup of brown rice (white is very starchy but you could probably get away with it)with your protein plus add either 1 Tablespoon of dressing for the fat or have some low fat cheese or flax seed oil. I suggest getting used to the brown rice though, cause when you go on a cut thats all you eat rice wise.

No it doesnt matter. My rule of thumb is, eat healthy at least 4-5 days out of the week and then take some treats on the other days. This is when you are bulking of course.

I realize i should switch up and eat chicked sometimes insead of tuna and vice versa..add fish...anythning else? thanks!
Definately there are alot of protein sources you can eat: tuna, salmon, any seafood, ground turkey, turkey breast. lean ground beef, lean cuts of steak, veggie ground round, chicken breasts, and tofu.

Remember most of all when you are building muscle you need the proper nutrition to repair your muscles. Have fun and keep on posting

cool thanks a lot. That will really help me. I'm sure I'll have tons more questions for you guys! But hey, how do I expect to get muscle if I don't ask these questions! Gotta start somewhere!

Posted by: J'Bo

Thats right, keep those questions coming!

BTW you could help me out too.
Could you go to the open chat section and read the post under the title : Florida Residents I NEED YOUR HELP?
That would be great thanks.

BTW how old are you again?

I'm 21, why? And you?

Posted by: J'Bo

I am 26.
I just wanted to know because if you are under 18 you are still growing at a fast rate and you dont diet then.

Ahh oh ok. Good to know though. Sometimes though, I get down. It's like, i used to be a chubby guy, and then I lost all the weight. Now I'm trying to build muscle. And it's hard b/c for so long i've tried to stay thin, and now all of a sudden I'm telling myself and my body "eat eat eat" hehehe. And when I get full I feel fat and my abs suck. It's that gross kinda feeling ya know? Maybe I'm just paranoid. I need to get my abs looking good real bad. I try everything but nothing really works! They're really weak.
