CERN Press Release – First beam in the LHC - accelerating science

Posted by: maniclion

Well they haven't done anything yet they sent a beam in one direction all the way around, collisions won't happen until they know that they can accellerate both sides to meet up at the correct point for measurement....

This is huge. It's a shame this isn't the most revered international news at the moment. People don't realize how large an undertaking this is.

Then again, most of the world's most imporant physics discoveries barely made a blip on the media radar.

'cuz at the time they were classified. give it time. this thing will be a nobel factory for these guys in 4-5 years. I'm excited to see what questions will be further raised. before this thing all of the theoretical physics and math had gotten to a certain point. just think how much further they can go when they have answers to the theories and mathematical models that describe what they discover.

I'm sure it is huge in the scientific community right now and gets deep respect. I'm saying for the general public, I don't think the public will now or ever give a shit about it.

It is great though, I am exciting to hear what comes out of this experiment.

you may be right. the thing the US population took away from the space program was national pride. little things like velcro often get overlooked, even though we use them everyday. I would assume the same thing happens here. thought with it being in france and switzerland the national pride thing will be harder to come buy

Yea... the LHC accelerator thingy is really cool I guess...

But I wonder what Britteny is doing these days?

People keep asking me "how can they justify that much money for something so useless and dangerous?"

I ask the exact same thing when I look at Hillary's senate Expenses.

I think this is pretty cool. Can't wait to hear more about it, like when the black hole is consuming our planet

True.

Soooo ignorant. It is funny how many people falsify and degrade the efforts in science, yet they live their pretty little lives that was made possible by....technology!

If I remember correctly, the LHC was supposed to be constructed around Wash. DC originally but the federal gov't cut the funds.
