its pretty east. look at the GI chart and eat low GI carbs. they are usually non-processed foods and have little to no sugar in their macros

I agree with everyone... low GI is the way to go. Even a variety of medium GI foods aren't always the enemy depending on your genetics, activity level, and what supps you are taking. The basics like oatmeal, most rice, baked potato, yams, etc. are all decent options... there are a ton of veges that are great choices to add as well.

Apart from the fact the GI is somewhat... how can I put this, bullshit.

Use it as a vague guide but generally just aim for unprocessed veggies and some equally unprocessed fruit.

GI is a load. Sometimes you WANT the fast carbs - for example, post workout the carb of choice may well be pure dextrose.

The best advice I can offer is to go with what feels comfortable, and avoid loading up with too much fructose. Starches are always glucose polymers, so white or whole, those won't steer your wrong. Generally, I'd suggest avoiding fruit juices and soda pop - it's just too easy to suck back a LOT of fructose all at once. Eat fruit - don't drink it.
