Crennel fired after Browns' 4-win season

BEREA, Ohio -- The Cleveland Browns fired coach Romeo Crennel following a 4-12 season.

The decision came one day after general manager Phil Savage was dismissed. Owner Randy Lerner met with Crennel on Monday morning and the team announced the coach's firing moments before a news conference began.

Lerner, who's been expected to make a run at former Steelers coach Bill Cowher, said Monday that Cowher told him he was not interested in joining the Browns.

A source told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen that although Cowher told the Browns he is not interested in their job, he has not ruled out a return to coaching somewhere in 2009. The source also said Cowher could still listen to opportunities to coach elsewhere next season.

I feel as if Marinelli never had a fair chance.

His teams were so pathetically built, I don't think there are any coaches who could've turned this team into a force. The talent just was not there.

damn - I thought they liked mangini.

I am trying to find a press conference from both Mangini and Crennel to see what they say. It doesn't seem like there are any.

Who thinks Belichek will take them back.

Weis is back at ND for another year and started it off nicely in a bowl routing of Hawaii..

Still though, Belichick spawns haven't done so great on their own but that makes sense to me, because Belichick is a genius.

I heard that Schotenheimer is in talks with the Cheifs about becoming their VP of Football Operations - a position like Parcells has in Miami.

I can't believe the Broncos would fire Shanahan.

I figured he'd be in Denver for the rest of his career. It's not like he's had multiple bad years in a row or anything.. Stupid firing.
