Stephon Marbury to Celtics?

ESPN:
Nearly one year since Stephon Marbury last played in a regular-season game, signals are getting stronger that the New York Knicks' outcast will eventually make his comeback with the Boston Celtics.

That still depends largely on Marbury's ability to negotiate his release from the Knicks after weeks of fruitless and oft-contentious buyout talks, but sources with knowledge of the situation told ESPN.com this week that Boston is Marbury's preferred destination if he manages to become a free agent and that the Celtics are indeed hopeful of signing him.

I am not much of a hoops fan, but what do Celtics fans think about this?

I can't see Marbury happy being the 10th man. What's he going to do? Keep Sam company during games?

the guy has a tremendous talent with an equally tremendous ego. boston could sign him to a small contract because not many other places will want a cancer like this guy. if he starts to act up the big 3 all have enough clout to bitch slap him into place as well as just releasing him if needed. this might be what he needs to get back on the court. ill be following this story

If they do pick him up, who goes? And whose minutes is he going to get?

I was happy to see him sign here, now I can't wait for this ego maniac to leave.
He's a club house cancer and a ball hog on the court, he's a me first win third player.

I do think that making sneakers affordable was a cool thing to do.

All season (especially on this most recent west coast road trip) the Celtics achilles heel has been their second unit, most notably the back-up to Rondo.

Tony Allen isn't a point guard. Eddie House isn't a point guard.

That's not to say those two aren't useful players off the bench, but both lack the all around talent to lead a Championship caliber second unit.

Marbury would take away minutes from both Allen and House, depending on the match-up, but that isn't a bad thing.

Powe, Davis/Scal (depending on the match-up), Allen, House, and Marbury is a pretty impressive second unit.

They had been interested in Mutumbo, as well as P.J. Brown, but if they can't entice a big guy up front to replace Davis, Marbury at the point would be the next best thing.

+1, but...

How much was it Steve & Barry's just looking for a budget spokesman with high upside? He had just been traded to the grandest of stages to lead his hometown Knicks back to the promiseland. The "Starbury" name was pretty catchy as well. At the time, his stock had completely plummetted and they were probably able to pay him fifty cents on the dollar because of it.

And if he goes to the celtics it will be the same scenario, Marbury the ball hog. See marbury is at its best with the ball on his hands, and he is more of a shooting guard then a point guard ( he passes extremelly well, but he is knowen for racking up shots). I personally liked him when he was in the Timberwolves and nets, but after seen him play in new york with all his crying and bitching I hope they dont buy out his contract and sit his ass the whole year.

Anyone notice how his former teams improve once he leaves.

this would be wicked, celtics would become an even bigger powerhouse

No way Marbury will be happy as the backup to Rondo. Marbury will be causing trouble in no time.

Is that because he's black?

I didn't know what to expect from him. I think he has some ego's to keep him in line (KG), and Paul Pierce has beautifully emerged as a great leader.

Oh and one other thing, Eddie House is god.

See as a miami heat fan and seen Eddie House rack up multiple shots a couple of years back for our team I assure you he is no "GOD". He is a good role player but he might be the worst nba player at taking the ball up strong for a layup. decent shot though.

That is true, i guess what i meant was he is excellent at shooting 3's. and he produces when you need him.

While Marbury hasn't caused any problems off the court, he hasn't exactly provided what they were hoping for on the court.

The Celtics could be too banged up to repeat this year.

Of course not, he knows this is his last chance.
After watching him play here I wasn't too impressed with him, he's not as good as he thinks he is.
