What do you do on your recovery days?

I go to the gym 5 days a week, and I was wondering, on days you take off the gym to recover after weight lifting, what do you do? I usually just do a light workout in my room; 100 Jumping jacks, 100 pushups, 100 crunches, etc..

nothing... hence it being a recovery day...

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ what you said

Depends - some times I'll run, other times I'll walk on an incline and watch a game, and some times I just go in the sauna and read a magazine.

On occasion I'll do a plyometrics routine, an ab workout, a light workout (like you mentioned) but only if I'm up to it and not sore.

I'm addicted to the point where the only days I don't go to the gym are days in which I'm too hungover to move.

Usually eat a lot of food and read.

Absolutely sod all. If you're doing something, you're likely not recovering as well as you could be - especially if you're working out 5 days a week.

I sit on a couch, eat, and play videogames.

I rest and recover.. make sure I get good sleep and DON'T do a workout..

I usually try to do nothing. However, sometimes I just cannot sit still all day, I feel the need to do something. Since I train 4 days a week I will usually do yoga or an extra spin class on one of my off days and try to do NOTHING on other days. If i really need to do something I will just go for a walk in the park or something like that.

exactly.

play video games

Unfortunately I have a strenuous job so my rest days are filled with walking & lifting comparatively much lighter weight.
I do try to get as much sleep as I can every night which is 7 or 8 hours at best. No way could I work out 5 days a week. Three is tops for me, otherwise I'm overreaching.

Gaz, well said. Where you been?

Posted by: Merkaba

um yea I 6th or 7th the notion of sitting on your ass and doing nothing. Thats why its a recovery day. 100 pushups is hardly a recovery! Shit if I were in a hurry 4 sets of 25 controlled pushups is a good chest workout.

Posted by: Ben dur

if your like me

an "off" day means you have around 50-65 minutes of additional down time

my typical workout is only 45minutes
60 tops

and off day really isnt a whole lot different from any regular day

aside from me not working out at all

I try to eat extra protein and take it easy the day after weight training. In the evening I do 15 - 20 on a stationary bike to get in some light cardio but that is it.

also, a recovery day for me isn't just for physical recovery... as much as i love to train and have made it a part of my life, it's nice to wake up and know you can just relax and not have to get to the gym...

Completely agree. There are days when I come home from uni and the thought of the 20min walk to the gym does not appeal to me. 3 days a week I get to relax and do nothing, there is no way I want to be in the gym 7 days a week.

I probably shouldn't have ordered a chicken sandwich from a place called "McDoner's" but goddamn that sandwich was nice.

Posted by: Ngordyn

i got that from a chinese restaurant a couple months back not the greatest experience of my life

Eat, sleep, chill, screw...

I will however stretch if I'm feeling tight, and I will use the foam roller for self massage.

This weekend I'm going to play a bit of pickup soccer.

Bad chicken = food poisoning

About 18 years ago I was living in Italy, ate a bad oyster. My god I thought I was gonna die. Spent a week in an Italian hospital, NO T.V., Nothing to read, absolutely nothing to do except stare at the ceiling. All of the nurses thought I spoke Italian so they would come in my room and talk to me like I understood everything that was being said. It was insane and quite comical at the same time.

Hahahahaha! Burst out laughing at that.

The thing is, I cant stand to not work out every day. It just makes me feel like I'm lazy and gaining more weight.

When I workout every day it makes me feel like I'm overtraining.

rest, stretch, or walk

Posted by: bigback51

Eat a dozen hardboiled eggs then do 50 squat-thrusts, just kidding. Its tuff to shift gears, & do nothing, goes against our grain, but you should do it.
