Hmmm....care to revise this???

Posted by: IainDaniel

That is the only chance they have Lunqvist standing on his head.

But no I don't care to revise

Posted by: Stewart14

Well yeah, Lundqvist needs to be great every game, but remember, theodore (or as one of the beat writers coined him, "Threeormore") down at the other end is the great equilizer.

the rangers scoring 4 goals in a game, two on the PP?? I'll take my chances with that

Posted by: IainDaniel

Yep Theodore looked horrible.

Rangers scoring four goals every game is very hopeful.

Posted by: oaktownboy

If my Sharks continue to play like they did last night, they've got no shot at advancing to the next round. I felt ill after the game ended.

Posted by: IainDaniel

Didn't watch it.... But they outshot Anaheim Big time.

Posted by: Scarface30

Thornton is unfortunately jinxed when it comes to the playoffs for some reason.

Would you care to revise this.........now??

Henrik Lundqvist, Rangers blank Capitals to grab 2-0 series lead

Keep talking Ian, your our good luck charm!

Henrik Lundqvist stops all 35 shots he faces as the Rangers grab a 2-0 series lead.

Um...maybe since it is impossible for it to occur lol

How was the game, I missed it. I assume Lunqvist stood on his head again?

He was there when he needed to be there, the team as a whole played real great defense, kept most of the caps' scoring chances to the outside and the points, not many point blank shots, one crossbar for ovechkin on a turnover, but that was about it.

Rangers need to get more shots on their goalie, they put in the backup and sat theodore, he was good, but not great by any means, he needs to be tested more next game. we'll see.

Posted by: oaktownboy

Now we got the Ducks right were we want them. reverse psychology baby..watch us reel off 4 straight

Posted by: min0 lee

Rangers shoot blanks

Posted by: I Are Baboon

LOL@ the Sharks. If they lose this series, they should be disqualified from all future playoffs.

Posted by: dg806

Man, did anyone see Seidenberg's slap shot last night with 2/10 of a second left in the game for Carolina as they beat the devils. Awesome shot!! Carolina should never have let the devils score 3 to tie the game though.

Posted by: oaktownboy

one helluva Sharks game...came right down to the end

Yes I have seen that. That was great.

Posted by: calalily1972

I don't watch it too much but I did watch last night bruins game 4 so I don't have too much opinion on this.........anyway, just want to say how AWESOME would it be for Boston Sports to be the leader in this decade? NFL, MLB, NBA and then NHL this year??

Posted by: oaktownboy

Talk shows here are really ripping into the Sharks. just when we had a good feeling coming out of Game 3, the Sharks went back to their lackadaisical ways yesterday. I'm not familiar with Joe's past, but how did Thornton do in the playoffs when he was in Boston?

I'm pretty sure it was about the same as he is doing now... I feel bad, I hate the Ducks and want to see the Sharks do well. I like Thornton, but am a huge Marleau fan.

but I'm just pumped because Brodeur came up HUGE last night. standing on his head the whole game... Jersey all the way... hopefully.

I wouldn't count the Sharks out just yet...

Posted by: IainDaniel

I would.

That is probably the worst match up they could have had.

Anaheim started out terrible at the beginning of the season but has played really well down the stretch. And there Banging and roughing up, can be tough on an offensive minded team.

They bullied there way to the stanley cup a few years ago.

Would you say the Sharks are struggling because they are way too homo for their own good, much like the rest of the Bay Area?

Posted by: IainDaniel

Probably a good reason.

Posted by: oaktownboy

FINALLY!!!! Joe Thornton finally broke out of his funk and scored a goal. saw him jawing all night long as well...Why couldn't he have done that at the beginning of the series? Did it really take him getting a beating in the press and over the airwaves before he finally took notice?

I think I'll go with the Bears!

Hawks, Ducks advance.

Later, Sharks.

The Sharks are almost as bad in the postseason as Tracy McGrady.

Lets go Canes tonight. Rock the devils.

Yes! They won in 7 games!!! What heart!

Posted by: dg806

And this was on the road!! Awesome.

Posted by: dg806

Cam Ward did a hell of a job tonight keeping that a 1 score advantage NJ had to keep Carolina in the game. He had some great saves.

Posted by: IainDaniel

That was a crazy finish... that is for sure.

Posted by: min0 lee

Rangers lose, eliminated from playoffs after 2-1 loss to Capitals

Posted by: IainDaniel

They should have been eliminated in 5.

Thank Lunqvist they are even in the playoffs.

I thought game 4 was good were Carolina Scored with 2/10 of a second left to win the game. Carolina almost gave that one away!
This one was better!

But they also won the cup in 06!!

Posted by: dg806

Cam Ward had a great game with 35 saves and Carolina scored an empty net goal with 27 secs left winning 3-0 and evened the series with the Bruins 1-1.

And the ducks win in 3ot!

Posted by: IainDaniel

Ducks are going to prove to be a challenge. Extremely underrated coming into the playoffs. They were on fire the last half of the season.

I don't think Carolina has enough to beat Boston though. But impressive victory.

Posted by: soxmuscle

Very impressive victory - Cam Ward was impressive.

1-1 and they need to split on the road.

Posted by: dg806

Honestly I feel the same. Even though Carolina shut down the transition game of Boston last night, they still applied alot of pressure on Ward. He just had an awesome game. Carolina has to do alot better when they get powerplays and put more pressure on the Boston Goal.

Posted by: Rubes11

i want to go kick the ref in the nuts from the wings vs ducks game last night way to fuck up a call(s) or pretty much the whole game

Posted by: IainDaniel

Yep that was a huge fuck up on the game tying goal... That said Hillar absolutely stood on his head.

Posted by: Rubes11

Hillar did play one hell of a game thats for sure.

Posted by: dg806

Canes played another great game last night winning 3-2 on Jussi Jokinen's goal at the 2:48 mark in overtime! They have won 2 straight now over the Bruins and lead the series 2-1.
They outshot the Bruins 41-23.

Bruins looked out of place last night... that is for sure..... kudos to the canes.

Posted by: soxmuscle

The Bruins were completely outplayed from start to finish last night.

This doesn't look like the same team that dominated the Canes in the regular season.

Somebody needs to jump start them and if it means a fight right out of the gates tomorrow night, then so be it.

The Canes want it more at this point.

Posted by: Scarface30

the Canes did have a good game. Boston was completely outshot though.

anyone watch the Caps-Pens game? I think this is the best series so far, especially the other game with Ovechkin and Crosby both with hatties. last night was another good one, Malkin finally came through a bit in this series. he almost seems intimidated by Ovechkin.

Posted by: dg806

Putting on my Canes rally cap!!! It would be good if we can go up 3-1 tonight

Posted by: dg806

Awesome. Great game 4 at home with a 4-1 win. Canes up 3-1. Try to put this baby away in Boston Sunday night!

Posted by: Scarface30

that was a heck of a game I have to say. Carolina is just completely outplaying the Bruins everywhere on the ice - they want it more. I don't think the ol' Bruins are going to win 3 straight against a pumped up Carolina team.

funny though, Carolina gets blown out the first game of each series this year, only to come back and be the dominating team.

Pens game was good too.

Posted by: I Are Baboon

The Whalers are looking real good.

Posted by: shiznit2169

I am very pissed off at my Bruins. They dominated all season, including a 4-0 sweep of the Canes with the scores being like 5-1, 4-1, 4-0, etc.. and after the 1st game i thought it was going to be a cakewalk. Since then, the roles reversed and the Canes are embarrassing them.

The Bruins don't look like they want to play. Slow, sloppy passes, not generating enough offense, there is no way they will win 3 straight.

Posted by: IainDaniel

Will it follow the trend of typical Bruin chokes?

They looked damn good last night. They played like Carolina had been playing. Carolina is going to have to regroup for Tues night!

Posted by: IainDaniel

Will there be a suspension for that sucker punch at the end of the game.

I don't think it should be. The Bruin player was just trying to draw a penalty, he should know to protect himself.

Are you kidding me dude? What have you been smoking? The Bruins player (Ward) was going at it with the other guy and the other Canes player comes from behind and starts throwing punches for no reason. It was 4-0 with 4 mins to go so it makes no sense to draw a penalty.

Posted by: IainDaniel

From behind my ass. Watch the play again... they were face to face, he was hoping the canes player would drop them, drawing an instigation penalty.

The instigation penalty can draw a 1 game suspension with less then 5 mins remaining.

Posted by: IainDaniel

It was a chippy game, very tough with a couple of Scraps.

Anyone in a scrimmish that gets in the face and grabs a hold of someone should be ready for a fight. Plain and simple this is hockey. In a situation like that it is either Throw the punch or get punched.

YouTube Video

Posted by: dg806

No suspension announced. I really don't understand the call for it either. Like you said it's hockey. You can tell he just stood there wide open, which I thought was weird.
What is considered a sucker punch? A punch thrown from behind or when someone is not expecting it?

Posted by: dg806

Well Carolina played like crap the last two games. Although they played better last night, they made alot of mistakes. It's going to be very tough to win game 7 in Boston.

Posted by: IainDaniel

Yep not looking so good.

Posted by: dg806

3 game sevens. Canes/Bruins, Caps/Pens and Ducks/Red wings. Good stuff!

Posted by: IainDaniel

Most interesting one is the one tonite. To me atleast.

Posted by: Scarface30

and so far it's shaping up to be a landslide..

4-0 Pens

Posted by: IainDaniel

Very Disappointing Game 7

Posted by: IainDaniel

One thing it did clear up.... Is if I was building a team, I would certainly take Sid the Kid over Ovechkin.

Posted by: dg806

Putting Canes rally cap back on!!! They are gonna take game 7!

do you mean just in general, or were you rooting for the Caps? because it was not quite as intense as I was thinking it was gonna be.

definitely.

Ovechkin is a great player, most natural goal scorer to enter the NHL in a long time, however Sid is much more versatile in my opinion. PK, PP, 5 on 5, battles down low, great faceoff man to boot.

Posted by: I Are Baboon

Go Red Wings, fuck the Yankees.

I didn't care who won. I just wanted an exciting game like the rest of the series was. Washington just never showed up.

Posted by: dg806

What a hell of an overtime game for the cardiac Canes! Walker put in the rebound to win the series. I'm pumped. Pittsburgh is going to be tough also.
Congrats to the Red Wings Phil. Maybe we will meet again!

Posted by: IainDaniel

Canes I thought were done in OT. They looked gassed out there. But one lucky bounce and bam.

Posted by: dg806

Really? I thought the Bruins looked tired. Carolina was much quicker than them on alot of shots. Carolina had several shots that could have won the game earlier by Stall.

Posted by: IainDaniel

At the beginnning of the OT yeah Carolina looked better. But up until that goal, the play was predominantly in the Carolina zone.

How Ironic that walker scored though. Gotta leave a sour taste to the Bruins.

Posted by: I Are Baboon

Red Wings in 5
Whalers in 7

Posted by: IainDaniel

Detroit
Pitts

Posted by: Scarface30

it's kind of unfair now that Detroit has taken game 1, but I am going to say both Detroit and Pittsburgh in 7 games each.

Posted by: dg806

Detroit and Carolina in 7.

Posted by: dg806

Man, what a letdown last night. Carolina was up 3-2 after 1 period. Then they fell apart.
Malkin had an awesome game. So did crosby.

Posted by: I Are Baboon

That third goal by Malkin was awesome.

The Chicago crowd is going to be apeshit tonight. Should be fun to watch. And I have burgers to grill and beer to drink.

Ditka.

it was! I bet he could not do it again.

Posted by: Scarface30

didn't see much of the game last night but I did catch the hit on Havlat. to me, it seemed pretty clean, but hard to tell. I don't think Kronwall deserved the punishment he was handed, that's for sure.

Yep looked good.

Havlat just had is head down and was receiving a blind side pass around the boards. He should be pissed at himself for not being prepared.

Posted by: IainDaniel

Pitts looking pretty amazing.

Posted by: dg806

If they win tonight, I don't think Detroit can beat them the way they are playing right now.

Posted by: IainDaniel

That is a big leap.

Detroit has looked amazing. Not a chink in there armour.

Posted by: dg806

Neither is Pittsburgh. They were just too much for Carolina. They are hitting on all cyclinders right now. You stop Malkin and Crosby last night and the other workers take up the slack. They are deep and don't have a weak link. I think Pittsburgh will take it.

Posted by: IainDaniel

I don't think Pitts is as strong defensively as Detroit.

Fleury stood on his head last night again.

Posted by: dg806

Quote:

You know what they say now......offense wins games in the NHL. And anyone can score for them. They will be hard to beat. It may be a great series.
Fleury is awesome. He made some miraculous saves in that series.

Posted by: IainDaniel

I hope it turns out to be a great series.

The last few have been dissappointing.

Posted by: I Are Baboon

Detroit gets scoring from their fourth line. You cannot get deeper than that.

I hope Chicago gets fucking stomped tonight. They pissed me off last game.

Posted by: IainDaniel

Don't think that Pitts doesn't either.

The double shift Malkin and Crosby, they are just as deep 1 through 4.

The only glaring difference I see is on defense.

Posted by: dg806

Chicago screwed up last night by letting Detroit have too many shots at goal. Hell give them as many as they did and they were bound to score. Detroit did a good job moving the puck and Chicago didn't. But Pitt moves it good also and gives them plenty of shots on goal. One of the guys on hockey central on Versus last night compared the teams and thought Pitt was better. We'll see.

Posted by: Scarface30

yeah, when they use Crosby or Malkin as a rotating 4th line centre, good things are bound to happen.

Datsyuk and Lidstrom might be out or at least playing injured, but they still have, oh.. Hossa, Zetterburg, Cleary, Franzen, Kronwall,... etc.. to pick up the slack.

hopefully it will be a good series. I'm routing for the Pens all the way.

Posted by: IainDaniel

Gotta choose Detroit.

Even though I want Pitts to win.

Posted by: Scarface30

decent game last night. only watched until the 3rd though. too bad Pittsburgh lost, I have to say that Detroit got pretty lucky with those 2 goals. hopefully it doesn't affect Fleury too much, Pittsburgh played pretty decent.

Osgood played exceptionally well too. crazy they made the schedule a back to back for the first 2 games in Detroit, that's gotta be tough.

Thank NBC for that one. Even though they don't pay a dime to the NHL, they dictate the schedule.

Posted by: dg806

I actually thought Pitt outplayed Detroit last night. They just can't get the puck past osgood. Good games.

Posted by: I Are Baboon

Detroit plays a flawless game. They don't make mistakes, and any mistakes their opponents make get turned into goals. Pittsburgh will have to play a perfect game to beat them and I don't know if they have it in them.

Sure Detroit got a little lucky when Pittsburgh hit the post twice, but no team ever won the Cup without getting lucky once or twice during the course of the playoffs.

seriously? you'd think Bettman would have some say in it??

Pittsburgh's in tough now (if they weren't before). can't let Detroit get any at the Igloo, but that's easier said than done.

Posted by: IainDaniel

Weird series so far. The team who dominates the game loses.

Posted by: dg806

Last night I would say period 1 was even. 2 Went to Detroit (but no score)and 3 to Pitt. The difference last night was that Pitt was able to capitalize on a couple mistakes where in game 1 and 2 they did not.
How about the six men on for Pitt for 21 secs? That was wild no one noticed.

Posted by: HOOPIE

Pens tie the seriews up!!!!!!!! yeah baby!

LETS GO PENS!!!!!

Posted by: dg806

Yep, it's on now.
Pitt was quick last night and it showed. They totally dominated the 2nd period. They scored on a Detroit power play and Detroit did not even have a shot on goal during the power play. That was the turning point.

Posted by: I Are Baboon

Damn, Detroit got whipped last night.

Posted by: IainDaniel

Zetterberg looked tired.

Posted by: HOOPIE

Detroit looked tired....

Posted by: dg806

Game 7!!!!
It think it's going to be very tough for Pitt to win in Detroit. Looking forward to it though.

Posted by: IainDaniel

Yep interesting series to say the least.

Detroit won in Pitts last year.

Maybe Pitts can win in Detroit this year.

Posted by: dg806

It's on tonight!!!!

Posted by: HOOPIE

Wahooooooooooo!!!!!

Pens Win!!!!!!!!!

Pens Win!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: Scarface30

Pittsburgh played 2 solid periods, they were always quick on the puck when/if Fleury let out a rebound, which was really good. and Talbot was forechecking like a madman.

3rd wasn't so hot, Detroit finally started to play Detroit-hockey. although Fleury stood on his head and made a monster save with 3 seconds left or so on Lidstrom.

good to see the Pens win

Posted by: dg806

I knew Pitt could do it after watching them against the canes. But Detroit's O & D really made it go to the wire. Both teams really deserved to win. Other than the one blowout, it was a good series.

Posted by: I Are Baboon

Impressive showing by the Pens, taking 4 of the last 5 of the series. Well done...they deserved it. Congrats to the Pens and their fans (all gay, btw).

How much is Marian Hossa second guessing himself right now?

I heard the Red Wings thought he was exceptional at picking up the soap in that showers after the game.

Posted by: dg806

When Hossa played for the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Wings beat them. When he played for the Wings, the Penguins beat him. He keeps getting run over.
He has good stats though. Just didn't perform up to expectations.

yeah, that's the problem. good stats will only get ya so far.

Posted by: IainDaniel

except he did shit in the playoffs this year/.

Posted by: dg806

Honestly, Crosby only scored 1 goal during the playoffs and didn't really do much. I think Malkin is turning into an awesome player. He killed Carolina big time.

Crosby only scored one goal during the playoffs? Only one during the Stanley cup yes.

However Detroit had home ice advantage and threw out Zetterberg everytime to shadow him.

Crosby is a better all around player. Great on the faceoffs and in the defensive end, the same can not be said for Malkin. Malkin does have some mad offensive skills though.

Posted by: dg806

Hossa traded to the blackhawks!

Yes I meant the Cup finals, not playoffs.
