A bit of an issue?

Hay guys, new to the forums.

Just a quick question. I do an all body light weight workout 3 times a week and like to swim afterwards because it's good for my fitness and nice to do after a good session at the gym. The problem is I drink a protein shake after weight training which I know is important, would it be recommended to swim straight after I do this? Otherwise this means i will have to go swimming on separate days which I don't have time to do. Unless of course it's just a case of waiting half an hour or so which means I could sit in the sauna/steam or something.

Would be great to hear your thoughts on this.

Cheers,

M

Have the shake after your swimming session. Ideally, you want to take advantage of the relatively low glycogen state that you'll be in after weight training for your cardio session. The concept that you need to consume a post workout meal immediately after the last weight hits the ground is a myth. It'll be just as beneficial to have your shake after you swim.

personally what I would do is make ur shake up n drink it while doing or or before ur last couple sets if possible that would give u a few minutes to digest ur shake before hittin the pool

Drink it after your swim. If you have prolonged workouts, you could take in some light and beneficial Amino Acids preswim, but dont drink your protein until after the swim.

Spot on, please dont wait until after you swim. Meal timing is irrelevant throughout the day however you do want to get some protein and carbs in you system as soon as possible after training. Its late and im tired buts its something to do with blunting cortisol. Anyway, just drink it before swimming.

I would go for after the swim, during workout seems like it will feel like its about to come out your mouth.

Nothing wrong with having a small, dilute shake during your workout, or alternating sips of shake with sips of water. But I'd hesitate before suggesting knocking back a shake before a swim. Keep in mind here, buddy's doing a light full-body workout, he's not training Westside.

MattN, I'd suggest you either sip a little of your shake during your lifting workout, between sips of water, OR just drink it after your swim. Whichever is more comfortable. It's not going to make THAT much of a difference.

I make shakes with everything I need during my workouts, depending on what gym day it is picks the shake I make. I use to train the way you do and drinking a light shake such as muscle milk RTD's or slim fast around the end of your workout will not hurt you in the pool (might give you gas tho.)

What kind of shake do you drink?

Great point

I cant drink or eat anything after my workouts my stomachs in a knot, but I can drink before or during and swim afterwards and I'm fine.
