hello all.Quick question....i stopped lifting 4 like 3 years and now i know why i stopped, when i started up again i had mild to med discomfort in my shoulder (prob rotar cuff but not sure)i had it when i stopped and 3 yrs later it hasnt gone away.Actually today's workout was so painful in my bench i could barely lift anything,Funny thing is i can do all my pull lifts but no pushing. My question is do i just rest some more? Did i jump back to heavy? Is surgury inevitable? I just hope the pain will subside i really was enjoying getting back to lifting. Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm working through RC issues right now in my right shoulder. For myself it's just a matter of exercise choices. It's really not an issue, just a good reason to switch it up for a few weeks. Long story short I'm... going 60% of max on the bars and the sky is still the limit on the bells. The bars hurt so I stop at the point it getting near the hurting. It's helping my left side catch up with my dominant right side, BTW.

Right away. If it hurts I back off as a rule.
Never stopped, just lowered the weight on flat bench.
When I was younger I use to worry about odd pains. Now I don't. If they bother me to the point it affects sleep I see the doc. If it doesn't I ask on my yearly appointment. That's me.
If worry is messing with your head see the doc for peace of mind if nothing else.
The Internet is not the place to fix whatever is going on with you.

Have you tried dumbells instead of the bar ? Sometime just changing the angle or trying machines help .
