You need to burn more calories than you consume... eat less

Cardio may do a little, it might increase your appetite too, so it may be counter productive

A healthy diet doesn't mean a lot. Healthy does not mean you are in a calorie deficit which you need to be to lose weight.

Crunches? Not really. Spot reduction won't work. You should lift weights. Large muscle compound movements like squats will do more to help you lose weight than crunches.

Prayers? You don't need prayers if you lift and have a calorie deficient diet.

Prayers was just me bein silly!

    But for all seriousness.......

Im on here because I need to learn more about lifting and bulking. I am a Cardio FREAK and can do it everyday! I just need to balance it out with good lifting. So a couple of questions in line with the topic question.

    1. What do you think about resistance machines? Can that suffice for the lifting part of someones regimen?

    2. Do you think the resistance machine that targets your abs work? Thats what I use more often.

    3. If I have to burn more calories than I take in to get a 6-pack, and at the same time I desire to gain more muscle mass.............is decreasing my caloric intake the thing to do?

Machines are okay. They are not ideal. You get a much more natural movement from free weights. Machines will isolate and target specific muscles. Free weights force you to use stabilizer muscles which is a good thing.

I'm not sure about ab machines... I would think it is the same as anything. They are unnecessary. Body weight ab exercises are good and don't require a machine. People like machines because they make the exercise easier.... but by making it easier, they also take away some of the benefits. Sure it's easier to not use stabilizer muscles but then you aren't using stabilizer muscles.

Burning calories to get a six pack is different than gaining muscle mass. You can't really do both at the same time. This is why people bulk and then cut.

When you eat more calories than you consume you will gain weight. This weight will be both fat and muscle. If you are lifting while gaining weight, the ratio of muscle to fat gained is much higher but you will still gain some fat.

When you eat less calories than you consume you will lose weight. This weight will be both fat and muscle. If you are lifting while losing weight, your body will realize it needs the muscle so it will try and retain the muscle while losing fat. You will still lose some muscle but the ratio of fat to muscle lost will be much higher than when you diet without lifting.

You can't really do both at the same time. You have to pick between bulking and cutting and alternate. That way you grow muscle while bulking and lose the fat while cutting. Lifting is important in both stages. Without lifting, you gain mostly fat while gaining and lose mostly muscle while cutting... this is how cardio bunnies get to be skinny fat. They always have that layer of fat but they don't really have much body mass. They just diet away their muscle.
