    post surgery muscle maintenance

I am a 37 y.o male 185 lbs, I currently workout 5 days a week. I recently started hving problems with my left shoulder in which an MRI revealed a large bone spur that is putting pressure and tearing up my shoulder. It also showed a signifcant amount of damage and swelling. My doctor suggested surgery, I go in Tuesday 8/17 to get this fixed.
How can I maintain the muscle I have worked hard to achieve while being restricted from training. My doc says I can train but cant do anything that uses my shoulder which means to me lower body. I was thinking I could shift gears and go into cardio mode but I dont want to lose my upper body muscle, any suggestions?

Also, what supplements if any can help me with this. Are there any out there that can prevent muscle loss while trying to lose fat. I do not have a lot of fat, i am actually lean but I do have a few lbs i could drop but do not want them to be muscle.
    Thank you
    Aldon
