Frustrated Newbie
Hi all, I'm new to this site and am in search of some words of wisdom. But first, a few stats about myself:
-20 years old (21 very soon) -5'10" height -148 pounds body weight -about 9% body fat 2 1/2 years ago I was a XC runner (same height but weighed 125 pounds) I was pretty lean but didn't look crack skinny mainly due to my broad shoulders and compact upper body. Since my running days I have put on some muscle and some fat. But about 5 months ago I decided by summer's end I wanted to shed some fat and lay on roughly 10 pounds of muscle (easier said than done, of course) I remember weighing 150 when I said that. I have been lifting pretty heavy about 3-4 times per week (mostly upper body). I've also been trying to get enough protein with whey shakes, protein bars, chicken breasts, low fat burritos, etc. but I usually fall short (average of about 180 grams). I've definitely made progress in the past 5 months but not as much as I had wanted to. My six pack is returning and my triceps have filled out a bit (enough that friends who haven't seen me for awhile take notice) but when I look in the mirror I don't see a whole lot of a difference. Since the scale has consistently been reading about 148 lately that means I've replaced some fat with muscle but certainly nowhere close to the 10 pounds I was shooting for. There is still a month left in summer for me and I'm willing to try pretty much anything to get even halfway closer to my goal. Help a new guy out and tell him what to do! -Nick |
