    Hi, I'm Dan :)

    Hi, my name is Dan.
I live in Chandler, Az, and I have just started going back to the gym seriously as of approximately 3 weeks ago. In a previous incarnation of my body (and life), I used to powerlift and was in decent shape. Roll forward a good 20 years, and I find myself middle aged, horridly out of shape, and well... pretty much a tub of goo (LOL). I have decided to change all that.

Since I have started lifting, I've already noticed a difference in terms of how I feel. I joined this board to get information and suggestions with regard to workout tips, diet, etc.

One thing that I was rather shocked to find, is that while my upper body has definitely lost a great deal of definition (and strength), my legs and back are still surprisingly strong... I did a 405 deadlift (set of 5) this morning, and hack squatted 890 (partial for 3 reps) [750 full ROM for a set of 10]. Benchpress, on the other hand is SO pathetic, I won't bother posting it.

Anyway, I just wanted to say hi .

    Hey Dan
I lived in Mesa 5 years in my college days, while I went to ASU. So from one desert rat to another... welcome!

I can only say from my 40 something years, you can never start too late. I've been lifting for 6 years now, after about 20 years "off" as well from my college years. My encouragement to you is to just keep going, even if the progress doesn't come as fast as it "used to!" And that tub of goo is going to come off, slowly but surely. It did for me.

    Regards,
    Another middle aged BB wannabe...

Thank you all for the warm welcome! This board is awesome! I have already learned a great deal with regard to diet, and tips and tricks to get myself into the shape that I deserve to be in. I have already noticed some significant differences... did a 470 squat for the first time in 18 years, and managed to push up 960 on the hacksquat machine for 3 reps (my legs are absolutely killing me today, so I'm thinkin' that was a bit much). My primary focus for the next few months is on losing the fat around my tummy, getting my bench so that it is respectable.
I appreciate that people aren't afraid to say what they're thinking. It may come across as a little blunt, but I personally prefer that.
    Thanks so much!
