weight and hypertrophy correlation

I'm 6'5 and 183, i have a friend who is around 6'2 and weighs 140 but he looks to be almost the same size as me. we double checked on the same scale, and i don't see how 3 inches could provide that much more room for 40 pounds he is a bit smaller through his chest and legs, but other than that - what is causing this difference in density?

There was a young bodybuilder who asked Arnold what body fat % he should get down to for an up coming competition. He also said that it tested at 5 % but he couldn't figure why he wasn't as cut as he should be. Arnold simply said jump up and down in front of the mirror, if you see flab jiggling then you are not in shape yet.
I don't know if this is a true story but I love the simple lesson it teaches.

many variables at play, the main two would be muscle to fat ratio and bone structure.
