Trying to be a new man
Hello everyone,
My name is Brian and I'm a 30 yr old man from NY trying to change my ways. I want to become a better person all around and I feel the biggest problem that this will help me with is my confidence. I currently weigh in at 172lbs by my home scale and I have never, aside from the occasional push up, worked out. What I'm looking for is guidance....and from what Ive seen so far I'm sure I'll find it here! My goal is to get to about 195lbs within about 8-12 months and that is my challenge to myself. I just have to figure out were to start. So hello from NY and wish me luck! |

Welocome aboard
This really is a great site with lots of committed, knowledgeable and well-intentioned people. Listen to what people on here say and act upon it *consistently*; you'll see changes quite quickly and that should inspire you to see the whole thing through! Good luck! |

My only concern with you're goals is gaining 23lbs of muscle in 8-12 months. If you are a genetic freak or taking steroids that will be easy, however most people only gain 10-15lbs in their first year. Just work hard and take you're time and you will reach you're goal, remember this is a life change so don't worry about getting there too fast. |

i been working out for 7 years and im only 24 and i have learned some good stuff in here...i love soaking up knowledge when it comes to training and dieting...one thing i realized is that a persons eating is way more vital to body change then lifting weights...for years i would lift heavy, do some cardio and not notice big changes...sure i got stronger but the look i wanted was not coming...little did i know my eating was horrible...3 meals a day will no where near cut it when it comes to packing some mass and losing fat.. i never knew eating more can help u lose fat... only in the last year did i really try 5-6 meals eating clean and supplementing with protein shakes and the change was great...maybe my strength has barely increased but the fat is leaving and i look way better...good luck and remmeber everyones body is diffrent...there is a base way to diet and workout but then u gotta go from that and adapt to what works better for u...

well ty again. I just got back from the Y worked an hour on upper body using the machines. I plan on using these for about 2 weeks to get used to this process. I got on the scale this am and it said 178.5lbs....mostly water lol but that will change. Just have to figure out how to eat more as I usually only eat 2 meals a day...just the way ive been for most of my life. Im gonna try to take pics so I can really get a good look at myself over the next few monthsmaybe take a pic every 3 weeks. But I will say that I am almost as excited as hearing my wife say she was going to the gym as well!! So again ty all..oh can u recommend something besides eating 6 meals a day to gain my wieght as I just think that will be the hardest thing for me to do. Growing up poor has taught my body to survive on very little.

Ihateschoolmt... I think the important thing in your amazing weight gain was... your age!
A 14~18 yr old guy can make amazing gains in weight and strength with effort that is realtively minimal compared to what a matured adult would have to put in. Not to burst any bubbles, but don't expect the kind of advances you've seen to continue into your adult years. Personally, I found the best way to gain weight is a gf/wife who can cook and complains about how much time you spend at the gym instead of with her... lol... (140 lbs of lean muscle at 17 when we started dating... 190lbs of somewhat softened engineering student at 19 when we married... 220lbs of squishy husband/dad/employee/law-student which is down from my max at 31 today) Of course, in a few years she'll complain that you must take her for granted because you've allowed yourself to gain so much weight. One other aspect of your amazing success relative to adults is, well, time. When you have a full time job, maybe night classes, family obligations, etc., you will find that it's tougher and tougher to dedicate 10+ hours per week to training. It's life, and it's about choices and values. |
