I'm pretty much a total newbie; I'm not ashamed to admit that. Gotta start somewhere. I was never that athletic or interested in the gym until now. I'm not fat, pretty good shape for being 45 yrs old, 6'1" and about 185 pounds. I had some surgery on my left arm a couple years ago which made it quite a bit weaker than the right one. I want to correct that.
My other goals basically run the gamut: to get all-around stronger, have more stamina and endurance for hiking and outdoor activities, to have bigger chest, shoulders, and biceps, and to have flatter abs.
I've been working out regularly for only 5 months so far, and am seeing some modest gains. Feeling better too.
Basically I wonder if I'm on the right track with both the workout plan and supplements. I'm doing a basic Mon-Fri training schedule which cycles through triceps, shoulders, biceps, back, chest, legs and abs. I top it off with cardio (which I HATE!! It's torture!).
I'm trying to follow The Abs Diet. I like it so far; it's pretty much what I like to eat anyway, so I find it easy. Only problem is remembering to eat six times/day.
I would congradulate you on your life changes and tell you to keep up the good work...
My opinion is that being 45 years old you would want to concentrate on the cardio first rather than after the work out. I base my opinion on the fact that abruptly causing resistance(working out) in your muscles shocks your heart. I normally do my cardio first as to get my heart beat up so it knows its ready for work. also if thats considered torture to you than I would say that your body is telling you that you need more of it....
does your cardio consist or walking, jogging or excersise bike? And exacly how many minutes per day are you doing cardio..
also since your 45 im curious, has working out improved your libedo? I am 30 and I can tell you that for me it has...
Putting all that aside, welcome to the forum and stay with it...
Thanks for the advice. I should have said that I normally warm up with about 5 minutes of cardio before hitting the weights -- as per what a personal trainer had me do each session. (I no longer am seeing him; too expensive to keep it up so I'm just training on my own).
When I'm doing cardio, I usually do elliptical or treadmill (walking somewhat fast, around 4.5, with incline set high). Sometimes use the bike. Haven't tackled the stairmaster yet.
I'm not sure how many calories I need to burn per week doing cardio. Personal trainer mentioned it a while back, but I forget what he said. Maybe 2500 calories/week minimum, does that sound right for me?
And yeah...I've always had pretty good libido, though of course not as good as 20 years ago or so...but working out definitely helps it. I think sometimes the Nitrix has an effect too. Someone recommended Vitrix (tribulus) to me, also. I'm curious so I might try that at least once. Waaaaayyy too expensive to keep taking it on a regular basis though.
