Sal from Philly
Hey everybody, how's it going, I'm new here, have been woking out on my own for a couple years now. Two years ago, I finally got up enough strength to lose the extra 100 lbs. I had been carrying for pretty much my whole life. It felt/feels terrific. I remembered how athletic I was as a kid, and also found out, I was pretty fast 100 lbs lighter. I started playing all the pick-up sports I could, and found my favorite to be ultimate frisbee. It really is a fun sport.
I was able to lose the weight with a steady dose of running (treadmill, soccer, frisbee), it was amazing of how addicted I was to working out and getting even more fit and fast. My diet changed dramatically. No longer did I go for my old staple of fast food nearly every day maybe even twice a day. I ate veggies and fruits. I cut out all carbs after 2:00 p.m. everyday, and started eating more small meals. It felt like I was eating all of the time and never gorged myself like I use to, but I never felt as hungry as I did when I was bigger. Anyway, I'm starting to get a little older, and my body is aching from being so much more active. I have abused my ankles and feet playing sports. After a long vacation in December, I got back to the treadmill, but now I'm not so interested in pushing myself harder and faster now just nice and steady. The problem is out of nowhere my knee is really hurting and I can't think of what I did, and I'm bummed that it's preventing me from running, so I am looking for advice on what I can do. Oh I have no health insurance so seeing if there is any damge is not possible now. Look forward to chatting with you. |

You should take up frisbee golf, Tyler State Park has a sweet course.

Your best bet is to take up low impact workouts. Stay away from the treadmill and substitute it with an exercise bike. Workout your legs but not to the point where you feel pain and DEFINITELY go get it checked out by your Dr. if it is interfearing the much with your everyday life. Good luck and welcome to IM.
