    Question Thrift Stores

Anyone else like them? I just bought almost $400 worth of antique silver plate flatware that looks like new for $35 .

There's always something fun to find in the shops around here like primitive kitchen equipment, vintage linens... to me it's way cooler than stuff anyone can go to the mall or wherever and buy. If i get the same cookbook at borders for $25 as i can get at the attic for $1 i like the attic one better there's more to it than the book.

Sure, I do. I actually picked up a set of golf clubs the other day as kind of an incentive gift for a neighbor. They weren't the best, but I don't like the bastard that much to buy him a set of new clubs, but I do need a golf buddy! $25 is all they cost, bag and all.

The ones by my house suck, every now and then they get something but mostly they have all this Hawaiiana Memorabilia like a Betty Boop in Hula outfit lamp or a million Elvis Blue Hawaii plates, cups, shirts, etc..... I used to find cool vintage lion shirts in the second hand clothes stores in Waikiki now they seem to only cater to the Japanese Punker/scrawny emo kid crowd with only small and medium sizes.....
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
    eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012

If you find freak shows charming then indeed, rightly so.....

i know someone with some really cool antique lion buttons she's thinking of putting on ebay. maybe they could find a nice home in hawaii instead. i'm having a very hard time letting the old buttons i have go just because they were from my grandmother and i want to be sure they are coveted if that makes sense...

i have a lot, this is just a few types. i'm almost 50 and got them from my grandmother when i was preteen and know they're quite a lot older than that. i'll have to get them all together and take better pics. might be willing to trade for some cool hawaiin junk.

That's the type of stuff I look for I replaced all of the knobs on my desk with lionheads. If I find the right type I plan on replacing my guitar knobs the same. If that someone ever does decide to put on ebay ask them to contact me first....

I've been on a whole buy things to last and modify them to be your own kick lately. I'm so sick of American's buy cheap, use it, throw it away attitude. My first step was buy a fountain pen and refill the ink cartridge, people have gotten so used to throw away cheap pens they can't even hold on to one for more than a couple days. I've been using the same fountain pen for over 2 years now, I write and then it goes back in my pocket....

they're my buttons and i thought about you having them a few times. they're probably valuable but i'd rather give them to someone who will cherish them than sell them to someone who won't.
